Droid X Support Page Now Shows 2.2 Is Available.

I have Version 2.3.9...when this update thats coming is 2.3.15...

Since mine is the leaked version I have been told that I wont be able to update OTA...since the update coming is a newer version than mine, shouldnt I still be able to update it?

A manual update will be available within 2 hours of the actual release that won't require rooting so don't fret.

I wouldn't bet heavilly on that, this is not like the manual OTA updates for the Droid 1. Unless someone comes up with a miracle in the next day or so you will have to go back to stock 2.1 with ALL Bloatware installed , ie. 100% pure stock 2.1 system as shipped to apply this update, no matter if you get it OTA or manually download the file from where ever.

There is already a "leak" of 2.3.15 (the confirmed official update)...BUT due to the Bootloader limitations this type of leak can only update the system area. So you will not get the new kernel, Radio, etc that is part of the OTA release (in other words the "engine" of the release)...this can only happen with true bootloader access via an Offical Update....at the moment.

So unless someone has a trick up their sleeve I am not aware off (I wish/hope I am wrong), you will have to revert back to the "as shipped" 2.1 Software to even be able to install the Official Froyo, no matter OTA or Manual...otherwise the upate will fail to install.

Of course we could get lucky and Moto/VZ changed their mind at the last moment and modded the update to allow it to install over "non-stock" software....but I ain't gonna hold my breath on that one....but it would be cool if they did.

I too have the non-rooted 2.2 leaked version. Has anyone posted a "how-to" on going back to the stock 2.1 so I can get future updates?

no. moto has blocked the OTA for rooted devices and those running leaked OSs. It has nothing to do with newer/older

no they blocked the people who are running the leaked OS not the ones who are rooted. the update will work for all rooted 2,1 you will lose root though.

Well I'm just gonna hope that I don't have to un-root and put back the bloatware just to update.. (yes it's not much but I'm a very lazy fellow, lol)

I didn't want to flash 2.2 due to the reason I had to revert back just for an official update.

you will probably have to put back the bloatware. Even those who were doing the leaked copy had issues with having bloat removed. I could be mistaken since I have not read those posts for awhile, but pretty sure.

Okay, so we won't officially know until tomorrow if people who are running the leak will actually have to revert back to stock first. I don't think I'm going to have to ask for this, but when people start to receive the update, can we get confirmed posts on the forum? I'd like to know that it is actually happening and that I can't get it with the leaked version before I revert back. I'd love to avoid going through setting up everything again.

It already is... it's on the Droid X Download page on my site now, been there for a day or so .. BGX v2315 :-)

BUT, you will have to DeOdex the OTA release first to use that one.

As soon as I have my hands on the OTA update I will also create the Odexed Version for those that don't want to DeOdex. Should have Odexed Theme ready the same day as OTA release.

I have it marked on my work calendar to attempt the download around 11am my time (12 est). I am 2.1 rooted, with all bloat ware in place, and can report on how that goes.

man, I will by hitting that check for updates button all morning just in case they decide to open the gates early. My guess is we crash them and end up causing another delay by making them do a push instead of a pull.
