Droid marketplace's dirty little secret

^Well there must be an actual reason.

Thats like saying I hate Toyota....ummm, just because.

Not trying to be an ass.....just curious.

One thing is AutoCAD will not run on the OS.
I use Cad for work, no Cad, no use for it.

^Haha, well now we're getting somewhere.

PS- You actually could run autocad in OSX.....if you wanted/needed too.

The one thing I find wrong with the iphone is it's an apple product.

I love it! A guy coming into a Droid forum trying to talk up the iphone, not the best idea. Also, did he say that the iphone is just as open as Android maybe more so?? I don't think so pal. And one more thing, just because apple "regulates" the market doesn't mean that ish doesn't get through. 95% of that market is more worthless 25% of the Android market, I mean, how many fart apps do you need?

Dude, you are jaded. I had an iPhone before This and it crashed all the time. Yeah, I could take it to the Apple store, 50 miles away and wait for hours for help. That was a huge bonus. WTF are you smoking? I could only change the hime screen, then once I unlocked the device I had the same stupid black screen as everyone else. I guess if I wanted to sit there and look at my lock screen I can see what you are talking about. I actually don't believe you own any of the Android devices.

Oh, and by the way, I have had my Droid since November and not a single crash. What kind of crash are you talking about. I don't want to "pile on" here, but you are not making any sense to me.

cpju sounds like a fanboi in disguise, there are a lot of things you can do with the droid you cant do with the iphone. real time widgets, multi tasking, live backgrounds, fully customized ui, wifi tether, how about ummmm flash? emulators? free turn by turn navi? i can go on and on, i use a touch now, as iphone is lame.

I use appaware, to see whats popular, then I download from there.

^Lol, why? The company, software or hardware?

I happen to think hardware wise, Apple products have a much nicer "fit and finish", Ive also never had a major issue with an Apple product, between ipods, iphones, Macbooks and such. Plus the warranty is much better, 1 year standard on all products where you can (if close enough) walk into a store for an issue.

Ive swapped my droid twice now since getting it for hardware failures.

The software isnt for everyone, I happen to like OSX much better than Winbox....but thats me, all depends on the user. OSX is much more optimized and worry free (with regards to viruses and spam) than Win.

I dont agree with some of the business practices and decisions of Apple....the "short leash" they keep on everything, but thats always been Apple.

They must be doing something right however, being the only company in the US with 0 debt and always hugely increasing profit margins.

Maybe you enjoy getting spoon fed, They are the only company with 0 debt? hahaha thats great, your really shot kid, you must like to be spoon fed and not know your finances. TROW ISRG EBAY LFC TXN ATVI for god sakes even Bed Bath and Beyond has no debt. That made me laugh, you made my night man. All those companies have huge profit margins as well.

Yeah, and they are getting those profit margins by doing business right and not raping the public. The same could not be said for Apple. The big red machine is a good company that really knows how to market and make people like the OP'er think they are getting a great deal. Well, keep buying those Apple products, I am going with the Android technology until something better comes along.

Honestly, I don't really get the OP's point. Yes, it's the user's responsibility to double check the ratings on an app before you download it. Since when did you do anything important without a minor amount of research? Do you walk into a car dealership and buy the first car you see before checking online to see if any problems exist with that model? Hell, I rarely get anything without first thinking and considering it for a moment. Even a $1 pack of gum I'll look at the flavor and decide if that sounds like something I'd want ... maybe even ask the clerk if they've ever had it before and if it was any good. You can't blame anyone but yourself for failing to put the minimum amount of effort in the decision-making process.

If it is honestly too difficult for you to look at a few comments before you commit yourself to downloading an app yet your time is so precious that you cannot spend 10 minutes to uninstall it, then it sounds like a smartphone is really not for you (hey, I'm being very generous here ... never took me more than 2 minutes to uninstall a program before). Hell, with LauncherPro (btw, a program you'll never see replicated on an iPhone) it takes less than 5 seconds to uninstall an app I don't want.

Really, the Android Market is amazing. The very fact that you see things such as ADW Launcher, LauncherPro, Astrid, and MANY very good quality apps made by amateurs shows that lowering the bar to entry WORKS. This is also why you see so many free applications. To develop for the iPhone, you have to buy a Mac (if you don't have one... costs $1000, realistically), buy the iPhone SDK ($99/yr), AND hope to Steve Jobs your program passes inspection. The costs are very high (at least, for a smaller developer) and the risk is relatively high as well. You just won't see people willingly working on a free (and, better, open source) application for the masses on the iPhone.

like what?
i'm pretty sure that android has native multitasking while apple needs a program to do it. there something iphone cant do. also i have flash camera and adobe flash. iphone doesnt have that. im pretty sure you cant change the battery either. im also pretty sure that the iphone doenst have endless storage, sd cards. i also know that iphones cant open RAR files, but my droid can. thats talking rooted to jailbroken phone.
now if you talk non root or jailbroken.. android can do wayyyy more things out of the box.

PS- Doesnt really matter....I was simply trying to discuss some things as I own and like both....

But appearantly (as I should have known) everyone on here is an Android fanboy and with that, close-minded and biased. If people would actually read my posts instead of just jumping in to say stupid crap, they would see that.

I wasnt talking up the iphone or bashing the droid...I was talking about good and bad points to both devices.

Ya'll have fun...I used to think this forum was made up of some fairly laid-back, sensible people....but it seems its getting like most the rest now with just a bunch of ignorant kids wanting to bash anyone that has different beliefs than their own.

OK, I love my droid eris, it's a great phone, BUT, it has crashed 4 or 5 times in the 2 months I've owned it. Every time it has happened, a hard reset was required to get my phone to even boot up. After reading numerous posts and talking to Verizon reps, I have the suspicion that apps or app upgrades are the cause.

Could be, or it could be that your phone is broken in some way. Although I've had apps crash on my Droid I've never had one bring the rest of the system down with it. Maybe I've just been lucky.

So it's downloader beware with no policing and no possible recourse for those of us who download a bad app. In other words, anarchy.
You mean just like virtually everything else for sale in the U.S.?

In my opinion, Google and android, in their quest to advertise XX thousand apps and suck in unsuspecting users, have either overlooked this or turned a blind eye. Bad news to us droid owners.
It's really very simple. With freedom comes risk and with flexibility comes complexity. Apple already had one end of the spectrum locked up and not even Google was going to beat them at their game so Google went in pretty much the opposite direction, (in a way, replaying the PC vs. Mac Battle). Which is better? Well, I've been using Linux for 15+ years and rooted my Droid right away. Heck I've even got a Zaurus 6K so the decision was pretty clear for me. That said I can certainly understand why someone would want the more confined but also more polished IPhone. It's a nice piece of geear and especially shines if you also have a Macbook and like Itunes. Really though I'm just happy that we have such good choices today. For years the best we had were Wince and Palm both of which frankly sucked.

Thank you for that

honestly, i haven't had any problems with any apps messing up my phone. I prob have tried out about 40 different apps. Some are awesome and some are just plain horrible. If you look at the ratings and user comments, usually someone has already dled it and reviewed it. But I haven't really had any problems myself.

One thing I will say... I have an iPod Touch, and the apple apps are def better than the android apps. But thats just because the iTunes apps have been around for years and the Android apps have been around for months. In time this will even out.
