Is there a decrease in function if the onboard memory gets low? mine is down to 34M or so. Should I start getting rid of stuff (I like stuff) to improve the performance or is it ok to have low memory?

Usually it'll be fine and can handle it, but if you experience hiccups in performance then yeah, I would uninstall some unneeded stuff

First, welcome to the forum. Second, the Droid is not a Blackberry. So you don't have to worry about memory like you did when you owned a Blackberry.

Droid manages it's own memory quite a bit different then Blackberry. Droid will shut down items as needed when it requires more memory. So relax, don't worry about it and enjoy your Droid.

If I'm wrong about you having a Blackberry previously, it was just an educated guess. Just about anyone new who owned a Blackberry ask that question.

non blackberry but close

I actually have had years of Palm and Treo use. But thanks...

Yes, this is true Icdret.....I stand corrected about the way Android operates...you shouldn't need to uninstall anything, AND you do not need any kind of app killer or task killer, task manager, Advanced Task Killer, etc. these are honetly useless because Android handles apps running in the background very well and these kinds of apps actually slow the system down even more because your forcing it to work harder by force closing apps in the background....and also, dont worry about apps in the background using extra battery juice either, as the Android OS will pause the background running apps so that they do not use extra power...

hope this helps man...
