Quality & Speed Comparison

Because there are quite a few people confused about what the differences are between the various Droid settings in DVD Catalyst, I converted 2 movie trailers using the different profiles.

For both trailers I used the 720p version from Apple - Movie Trailers
Since DVDs have a lower resolution, conversions are usually faster than the ones for these files.

The computer I use for conversions is a Dell e1705 laptop, Core2Duo 2.16Ghz (T7400) processor, 2GB Memory with Windows 7 64bit Ultimate.

Clash of the Titans converted slightly faster than the Legion trailer because it is slightly smaller in screen resolution.

I zipped up the 3 created files per trailer into a single zip-file for comparison purposes. While the HQ and HQ2 files look better than the standard Droid files, many people will not even notice the difference, and will benefit from the reduced filesize (almost half of the HQ2 profile) the standard settings use, and of course appreciate the speed increase for the conversions as well.

Clash of the Titans (all 3 files in one zip, 29MB total)

The files are intended to be downloaded on a computer, and then transferred over to the Droid using USB.
 
Yes I am a n00b.

Anyway once I download the trailer to my PC how do I get it to my Droid. I mounted it but I dont know what to do next.

  1. Step 1
    Check to make sure your MicroSD card is inserted and your phone is on.
  2. Step 2
    Insert your data cable into your phone's data port and insert the other end into an available USB port on your computer.
  3. Step 3
    Now drag down the notification bar on your phone and select "USB Connected."
  4. Step 4
    Touch the "Mount" button/icon on your Droid's screen.
  5. Step 5
    If you are using a Window's PC, click the "Start" menu and select "Computer" or "My Computer." If you are using an Apple Computer, skip to step 8.
  6. Step 6
    Click on the icon labeled "Removable Device" that corresponds to your microSD card on your phone.
  7. Step 7
    You can now drag and drop any song you want into the "Removable Device" folder and it will transfer to your Droid.
  8. Step 8
    If you are using an Apple Computer, your Droid phone will show up on the desktop as a new drive.
  9. Step 9
    Drag any video file you want into the "new drive" icon on your desktop to transfer files to your Motorola Droid.

The files will appear in the Gallery app.
 
Box Office Trailers

New trailers. This time I figured I pick the top 10 on Apple's Trailer website ( Apple - Movie Trailers ), and make things look a little bit more fancy. Because I wanted to add an article on my site in regards of multi-device conversions, I converted each trailer to 4 different devices.
The trailers are done with the new 3.85 version of DVD Catalyst 3 (click on the cat-eyes in the program to update)
I used the default (non-HQ) profiles this time, and used the default "Remove black bars from file" black bar removal settings.

I think I'm speaking a lot for folk on here, I think a youtube video would be awesome. Step by step on each format maybe? Thanks
