Droid Screen Woes

Last night, i laid my phone down (face down) on my bathroom counter. When I picked it up, it appeared that something had gotten on the inside of my lcd. It slowly traveled down the screen until the whole screen had a stained look about it. There is also a large blueish splotch in the center. The phone did not appear wet when I picked it up, nor was the counter wet, but it looks like water damage to me. Pictures are below. Is there any way I could get it replaced? Thanks in advance.

you might leave it face up in a warm, dry place and see how it comes out.

I once cleaned mine with isopropyl alcohol, and it freaked out the touch screen for 20 minutes till it evaporated....

It's been like that for about 30 hours now, no noticeable change in the way it looks, except when you view it at a hard angle, some portions of the screen seem brighter than others, almost like jagged lines of extra light. :/ fml

Under the battery cover, next to the camera, you'll see a white indicator with red X's. If that's what yours look like there is no water damage. If the indicator is a solid color, that means water damage and is what defines it to Verizon.

This is what you want it to look like http://i50.tinypic.com/vyobxy.jpg. Hope that helps!

Hmm that's weird. Mine is white with red x's but its not a big X like in the picture. It has tiny red x's.

My water-detection paper is normal, the phone was physically dry, so that's why I am so puzzled as to what happened to the LCD. If i took it to a verizon store, would they replace it with a brand new phone or would I get a refurb? (And for how much?) :/ Thanks for the responses!

How long have you had the phone? If you're within the first 30 days, they genereally give you a new phone. After that you get a refurbished phone.

This just doesn't seem right. I'm sure the would have to replace it, if the there is no water damage. But I've heard of where Droids have gotten completely submerged and came back to life, without this problem.

Edit: Just make sure you unroot it.

How charming can you be? Your best shot is to go into the store and tell them the truth without getting angry or arrogant in the process. This is very unusual, so I doubt they'll give you a hard time. They're usually very helpful with things like this. Try it and let us know what happens...

Yeah, that's why I was also so confused when it happened. It literally leeched from the top of the screen down, until it stopped at the bottom. I have no idea where the blue splotch came into play, it kind of just appeared.

And yeah, I know to unroot it but thanks for the tip :)

Would any official Verizon dealer do? I've never had any problem with a phone in the past (that I couldn't fix myself), so I'm a bit clueless to the whole process.

Yeah any official verizon should do, but I think you need to deal with the problem at hand here...the bathroom counter.

Oh don't worry, I already chewed it out multiple times. My heart was broken when I picked up the phone and saw clouds floating down the screen :(

So I just went to the nearest 'authorized retailer', explained what happened and showed the guy working. He said it almost looked like it came in contact with a He was really nice about it, but told me he couldn't help and that I'd have to go to the corporate store which is about an hour away. Don't know when I'll get there, but I'll be on stock 2.1 until then :(
