So I traveled down to my local VZW store yesterday just to look at the new Droids. I'm sure everyone here has seen/used the Droid X. My point is though, this thing is HUGE. It is like pulling a sword out of your pocket! Not trying to bash on it but I also dislike the GUI. I can't remember the name but I believe it is Moro Blur 2. Other than the hates, the phone has a few nice features. HDMI out, up to 24gb storage and great touch screen.

My questions are though, what is the GUI on the Droid X called?
And, is it true that Moto blocked the boot loader?

I here ya on the size but...i use the htc Evo and at first it seemed very big but after a few weeks i now look back at my old touch diamond and laugh. Phones do so much now that the added size is a welcome feature. One of the great things about android if you dont like blur you can swap ui's for something totally different like dolphin hd or launcherPro.

Yea, I use LauncherPro on my Droid and LOVE it. What about the problem with not being able to root it? Or have you not tried?

it has the same boot loader as the milestone, and the milestone has been out for 8-9 months and they are still trying to crack it. So dont get your hopes up about rooting the X. And as far as the size goes..its all personal preference, i for one would love a bigger screen but some might not, thats why you have choices.

You know what's funny? I did a size comparison of my supervisor's iphone 3gs and my droid x and they're like the same size. Difference being the droid x is thinner and weighs a lot less.

How practical is the HDMI output? I mean how many people will "really" use it. It is a nice technical spec feature and great marketing tool usage. But in practical usage, I would they rather not have HDMI and do something else with it.

Go to a friend's house "hey have you seen <insert movie>?" If not it is in your pocket. It'll take off and be used widely.

Question is does it output 720p? Or is it just a digital output.

The only limitation that I know of (in regards to the HDMI output) is the Blockbuster application. It makes sense because it is a copywright infringement. I'm waiting to hear back from Blockbuster about whether that limitation is only when you rent the movies. To me it would make sense to allow movies purchased on the phone to be played through the HDMI out.

From a business perspective, I can load powerpoint presentations to my Droid X and project them on the HDTV. There are other uses too, but that is a pretty nice feature.

It's not copyright infringement if you choose to watch on your TV or your phone. If it was, computers wouldn't come with HDMI. Blockbuster is probably trying to push netflix-like software for the TV, so they want you to buy that, and then pay AGAIN for your phone. This is, of course, grade A bull****.

It's a crying shame they had to use Blockbuster and not Netflix. Blockbuster will almost certainly be out of business before then end of 2011.
