Droidmod and 2.1 ota update

It will only block OTA updates from Verizon. You would still be able to update other apps. If you do block OTA updates, you would have to apply any update that is released by Verizon in the future manually. Or you could rename the file that controls OTA back to the original name. I am pretty sure you only have to change the name of the file that controls OTA to block them.

It's possible, happened to me this morning too. I removed the update.zip file from my sd card and the notifications stopped. I eventually gave in and unrooted than applied the updated through recovery console.

this didn't work for me...hmmmm

I'm also running DroidMod 1.0 and received the update but waiting to see what they come up with building off of 2.1....... don't want to give up the SetCPU or tether for that matter !

You can still tether, how is that an issue? My understanding is all it takes is an app to tether.

Not wireless tether. If that could be done Id have no need to root. Helix does most of what I want and 2.1 gets most of the rest short of wireless tethering. There are some cool apps and functions being rooted, and overclocking isb nice, but itsmore gimmic than substance to me.

Well I am running DroidMod and just got the update, deleted it off the sdcard. Ran the Block OTA updates that was posted here, all is well.

i was running droidmod and also received the update this morning. It also said that home++ isn't compatible. Not sure what the deal is with that...

*sigh* wish I knew what you guys are talking about. :) I'm a complete numby newb & know nuthin' about tethering, or droidmod, etc... I just got the official 2.1 update, but I see nothing impressive about it for all the threads that have been made over it. It still has only 3 screens and still no flash (what I really wanted) ...

...but again, I don't know what was coming in the update... again, a numby newb...

From Camel, The Main Developer of DroidMod, on his website yesterday, forum.droidmod.org. The bottom line is, if you have rooted with DroidMOd, don't worry about the 2.1 update appearing, you can click download if you want, but it will not install, and you can wait until DroidMod has a new update, nothing to worry about: He states:

"DroidMod does not block the download of the update.zip because renaming otacerts.zip causes the phone to constantly re-download the file. The update is blocked by sprecovery - but, actually, even if it were not blocked, the update wouldn't install anyways be cause the pre-install checks internal to the update would all fail.

So don't worry about the update; eventually it will force you to attempt the install anyways, which will be blocked, and you'll still have DM 1.0."

i just did this. the phone rebooted into recovery, it looked like it tried to dl something, and then gave me the option to reboot. i rebooted and i'm still rooted with all of my themes in place. no change.

Yes, I just got the update, clicked to install, was brought into SPRecovery with an option to reboot, rebooted from the D key (enter key) on my hard keyboard, and it rebooted successfully into DroidMod without the update, and with all settings intact.

Wow, I keep getting the notification. It says Downloaded and ready to install. But the update.zip does not show up on Astro and does not show up when mounted to my pc. Odd.

Hey Everyone!
I'm running DroidMod and this morning I received the OTA notification on my phone. I don't think I want to use this. I will wait for an another update from DroidMod. How do I turn off the notification , if possible? Thanks in advance!

You're rooted, running Droidmod and you are getting notification? I don't think that's possible.

I'm not calling you a liar, but if a phone is rooted and has SPRecovery in it there is no way it can get the update. I'm asking are you sure you're running Droidmod 1.0?
I had the exact same thing. I am rooted and got the notification. Wierd. It keep asking me to upgrade or remind later. No other option. I finally decided to say upgrade, it reboot into SPReovery and failed to start the upgrade.

Smilepak and Mike, that's exactly what the DroidMod forum and Camel are saying should happen. Just click on the update, it won't be able to update, reboot when you get put into Recovery automatically, and you will be back to DroidMod without the annoying notifications.

Hookbill was correct that we couldn't successfully download the update, but wrong about the fact that we would still get notified and be forced to try (or eventually it will try automatically for you).
