Dropped in the lake

my friend did the same thing with his, jumped into a lake. He had his in a zip lock bag, and it failed.
He set it in front of the hair drier for a while, works fine with no problems

Rice does work well...BUT the desiccant will work like magic. Don't turn it on, or use a hair dryer, or try to blow it out with air [as that forces water into the unit] take the bat out, put it in a baggie of white rice/ or desiccant w/ battery, turn it over a couple times a day, and wait 2-3 days.

Put it all back together and you should be good. I did this a couple months ago with my EnV, worked just like new after it dried out....G/L

I just jumped into the lake with my Droid X in my pocket about a hour ago... I haven't tried to turn it on, and I have taken the battery and SD card out. Anything else I can do???

The question is why did you jump in the lake with your phone on?

All these recovery technique is useless if you don't know why and you'll just do it again.

Really?

Here is some advice.....don't jump in lakes and always get insurance. You are an idiot and dont deserve to have a droid X!

Only problem is, I don't have insurance on it.

you will next time, won't you...
VZW maybe a little more workable than you think.
I had read that very seldom does VZW charge you full price to replace the phone. Their more interested in keeping your business. It's still going to hurt though.
Keep us posted,please "#### Happens"

Many years ago I had a Motorola Razr Vxx and went into the ocean with it in my bathing suit pocket. I forgot it was in there so I understand how that happens.
Anyway, I had no insurance on that phone and had to pay full price for a replacement. Needless to say I now have insurance on my Droid X.
Maybe VZ has gotten more lenient over the years?
Lesson learned.

Put it in RICE, my son jumped in my pond this year with his phone in his pocket, we didn't try to turn it back on we just took the battery out, put a few cups of rice in a rubbermaid container, covered the phone in rice, closed the lid for two days and it has worked for the past four months.

I'm sorry that you have had such an experience. Accidents happen and as humans, we can be forgetful at times. I hope you can get it working again. Good luck to you... oh and I highly recommend the insurance...

When I went into the ocean with my old phone the saltwater essentially fried the phone immediately. I would think there's more possibility of the phone coming back to life in a freshwater lake.

The Assurian Insurance is well worth it. I have replaced a razr, a moto q, and a storm. It costs $50 for the deductible, and the phone they send you is a refurb. Either way I have used it with every phone I have owned in the last 8 years.

I was under the impression that water damage was not covered, but maybe I am wrong.

This happened to me on forth of July. Took a wave over the back of the boat and the compartment my phone was in got filled up and my Droid was floating. I couldn't file an insurance claim since I had already bee dropped by them. So I was pissed and it sat in the car for a month. Tried to turn it on yesterday just for the hell of it and it turned on. So I got lucky didn't know about the rice thing

Oh The rice thing !!! you don't know about that..lol

you put the phone in Tupperware for 3 full days with lid closed .On the forth day at sunset you open the Tupperware grab the phone and throw it away and eat the rice.
