I have always went unprotected. I bought a case for my razr but didn't like the extra bulk so i took it out. The very next day it slipped out of my hand and smashed in to the concrete. It put a small dent on the bottom but other than. That it was OK. I put the case back on for a few days but still ended up taking it back off again. So far i haven't dropped it again. Knock on wood.
