Email not staying on droid

I'm a new member and am having problem with Charter email on Droid phone via Verizon network. I receive my email from Charter on my phone and would like to have it remain in inbox on phone until I delete. However, when I open charter email in Microsoft Outlook on my computer, messages are downloaded to computer and removed from server. Also, my messages on Droid are removed. It seems that as long as email is on server email remains on Droid but when no longer on server messages no longer remain on Droid.
Is there a setting that would allow messages to stay on Droid.
