For messaging needs, I use ebuddy, seems to work quite well.

Instead of the power widget, look at the setup widget. It separates out the individual elements so I have the wifi, gps, and mobile wifi locate next to the home screen. I can turn any of them on or off easily. You don't have to go through a menu structure.

is there an app that will restrict data usage to wifi only? reason i ask is cuz i got the 29.99 email and web plan but no data... SO... I would like to ensure that there is no data usage unless i'm on my wifi.

"Email and Web for Smartphone" IS your data plan.. You get unlimited with this. You can tether if you limit yourself, but as discussed many times - abuse it and you WILL get caught.. :) mikey

alright. so i get unlimited browser use and email use. However, lets say i turn on pandora and listen to the radio all day... that part is not unlimited. correct? so i will end up getting charged some ridiculous amount for the data that i'm using. right? If i'm right; my initial question was--is there an app that will restrict data usage (non email and browser) to wifi only (not when i'm 3G)?

Nope your not charged extra for that.... web and data are the same. Trust me I am crazy with the amount of pandora and streaming I do... no extra charge. So browse and stream to your delight!

In a world that doesn't Droid DOES

When you activate it, the warning seems to imply you may not get instant updates with "some" apps......but manually updating accomplishes the same thing ...... I say try it.

thats awesome! I'm so happy to be wrong! I just tethered btw... 2.5Mb dancedroid

I may not have this exactly right but you still need to be careful about tethering.

When you get the phone data plan (29.95), they assume you are not going to exceed 5 gb of data on the phone so they essentially say the service is unlimited. However, if you are going to tether the phone to the computer using their Mobile Broadband Connect (setup>connect to PC>default connect type>Mobile Broadband Connect) then you will be signing up to use their system for the 44.95 and limited to 5 gb.

If you are going to tether, then you need to use PDAnet or EasyTether to connect to you PC (USB connection). Then it is not transparent to VZW. IF you exceed 5 gb doing it this way, then they might begin to notice your activity and charge you the larger amount.

I came from an Omnia WM6.1, used a Wifi link from the phone, and never had any problem. I recently purchased PDAnet and it is working fine. You cannot use a wifi link on Android unless the phone is rooted and that hasn't happened on the Inc yet.

If this info is incorrect, somebody else please chime in.
