I'm sure they can check what ports you use for your data and when you use bittorrent ports or online gaming ports, they will know what you are doing and send you the bill

I download torrents all the time straight to my phone they dont like it they can suck it lol

Good luck. If they "don't like it," they'll send you a bill. If you don't pay it, they'll terminate your service. You can then get an attorney and sue them. That, however, is likely to cost you considerably more than paying the bill. Your choice.

As for what VZW considers to be "excessive internet use," that is left intentionally ambiguous. All carriers, including VZW, face a dilemma between marketing demands and network capacity. As devices like the Droid proliferate internet service providers face a whole set of problems in terms of providing adequate service. They can use market mechanisms (i.e. pricing) to control use and fund development of new networks or they can allow performance to suffer. Someone is going to pay for the next generation of networks. The choice is between charging heavy users more or using taxes to fund such development. Again, your choice.

I asked Verizon and the guy told me that if I'm caught tethering I'll be charged an extra 30$ per month , which is the price for tethering . Since I got the phone I only had around 100MB traffic from tether , I only use this in emergency situations . But the traffic with my phone was over 7GB every month .

I am hitting about 1.2gb/week on mine.

Never heard about that. I'm constantly on the browser checking websites and downloading porn (can't wait for flash for xhamster and tube8 lol)). It's one of the reasons I bought the phone to be honest

I have been reading this forum and different sites about excessive internet use but nothing I have read said what they consider as excessive. I read were Verizon tried to stop what they thought was excessive internet use and had to go to court because they disconnected customers phones and ended it up losing the cases and had to reimburse those people. This has me puzzled why they say unlimited and has me worried how much I can really use this phone.

Can someone tell me what Verizon would consider as excessive internet use?

I use right now and this is shared with my family around 5,300 MB a month. I plan to use my Droid for my sole internet use and will most likely use this amount. To me if you use a lot of the features on the Droid like the GPS which has to have the internet then yes you would go way over the 5,300 MB. Isn't this the reason we buy these phones for their features

I usually average about 5-7 GB of data on my Droid, and I do not tether. Nothing has ever been said, plus unlimited is unlimited. As have been mentioned in other replies to you, tethering is one of those unknowns for now, but I'd recommend staying away from WiFi tether for now because large amounts of data in a short period of time is going to bring up the red flags.

Lol im 35 I own a house and I work 60+hrs a week I know all too well about bills. And maybe I need to clarify....I dont tether and get torrents...I use aBTC to download full albums etc to the phone with the phones connection.....

That would be me. I had read that the charge per mb, if you were not on a plan, was that price. I'll clarify that the next time I mention that price. As nobody I know has been charged for exceeding their unlimited allotment of bandwidth I suppose we do not know what the charge, if any, might be.

With over 100 Billion revenue only in 2008 , I think you are paying more than enough . If you take a look at other countries you gonna notice that US has some of the most expensive providers . Those greedy bastards should invest more into development rather than thinking how to keep all the money , and cut some of the services if the network is busy . Japan already has home internet at 1Gb/s for 45$ and they achieved cellular super 3G speeds of 250 Mbps , that's Verizon's 5GB broadband limit in under 3 minutes .

I bet their stock holders would not agree with you. No one has to pay the fee if they think it is too high. After reading your post I was tempted to move to Japan for the internet service, but I did not do it as I would not be able to understand anyone!!
