[EXPIRED]Staples Offers $100 Off Coupon for Tablet Purchases

ohhh I'm so tempted to jump in on getting the Transformer. I really doubt that another deal will come along like this for a while, well at least until Black Friday.

but I don't need it....but I want it

That is me! I don't need one either. I really, really, really want one though. And I don't know why! :icon_eek:.

oh I know why, its b/c I'm a gadget freak. I was really thinking about getting a Nook Color to root and play around with. That was until my gf's mom got the Acer Iconia Tab A500 about a month ago. After playing w/ that I completely forgot about the Nook Color and have been eyeing the HoneyComb tablets.

now I just need to convince my gf that WE need a tablet...maybe something like "you know its just not good for your eyes to be focusing on such a small screen, I think a nice 10.1" screen would ease the stress on your eyes. See I'm looking out for you. What do you mean I just want another toy?!?! Ok well maybe I do."

I bought the Iconia when it first came out and really wasn't impressed with it. I thought HC needed more work and at the time the dev community wasn't able to do much with it. I returned after two weeks at best buy and bought the Nook color.

The nook color is awesome. It may be a lot easier to convince your gf on only spending 250 instead if 400. With the addition of Miui for nook, the nook is very appealing (personally like it over HC). The support for the nook is top ***** and once the aosp gets released for HC or ICS, it will be even better. I also feel like my rooted nook runs much better than the HC tablets.

But anyway, just get it if you really want it. My GF uses our nook more than me and I suspect it would be the same for you.

As for the IConia, I'm not sure how much progress they have made with rooting and getting custom roms. $300 is a great price for it and as long as most of the kinks are worked out with it and the new updates I'd probably purchase it again if I didn't have the nook.

FYI if you don't have a Staples near you but you have an Office Depot, you can try using the coupon there. Their price match policy takes competitor coupons (especially Staples) and I had no problem getting a Transformer for $299 yesterday. However, other people have said they are getting turned down, so it's really just depends on your local store and if they feel like taking the coupon or not. For $100 is definitely worth the try at least!

SCORE!!!!!!
I just did this here in Dickson so now I have both the Acer and Asus so now time to compare them side-by-side for the weekend and return the looser:icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

So, I just printed the coupon. I started calling the staples in my area to see if they had them in stock (transformer, what else). The answer was a resounding no most places. One associate told me to come inside and he could order it for me and honor the coupon. So I go to staples to order it, he tells me it is out of stock. Thanks for nothing. That's why I called knucklehead. Any way, then I called office depot to see if they would honor competitors coupons, the answer was a resounding yes!! They accept most retail coupons! And!..........the transformer was in stock!!!!! I got the asus for 299 plus tax! Yeehaw! I didn't need it, but wanted it badly. Now I have it I could not be happier. For those who are on the fence on whether to go with the asus or tab, just do a quick transformer v galaxy search and read the comparisons. Yay for me and good luck to all!

Which one would you guys get...I've been reading reviews and seems as though transformer is theest one out

If I was in the market, hands down it would be the transformer. It has probably the best dev community and to me that's a world of difference. Spec wise they are mostly the same as long as you are willing to sacrifice one thing for another.

Based on price, dev support, hardware, and overall experience of rank the 10.1's like this:
1) Asus
2) Tab
3) Acer
4) Xoom

If you have no use for extra ports and storage, I'd say go for the tab if you like the lighter weight and thinness, but it cost $100 more. The Acer has the full size USB host which neither the Asus nor the Tab have, which is an advantage, but one I could personally do without. I rate the Xoom last since it is still more than the Acer, but it could be tied with the Acer since is does have a larger following and more customization at the moment.

But I recommend you go and spend some time with each of them.

$300 for this device is so tempting, but I told myself I'd use the Nook for now and wait for a quad core.....I'm very tempted though if only I could get some money for selling the nook.

It's a hard choice between them. They both have pros and cons the other doesn't so it's going to be a very personal choice.

Transformer:
Pros:
Better color and 'crisper' display
Lighter (noticeable so)
Sync/Restore did a LOT more on this device than on the Acer (restored all my wi-fi points ect., not with the Acer)
Seems a touch more responsive and quizer
Much faster wifi (or rather use of the wifi, loads pages quicker, streams videos quicker ect)
Location of Volume rocker

Cons:
Placement of speakers can cause them to be covered when holding in landscape
NO HEPTIC feedback
no USB ports unless you buy the $$$ dock
No flash on rear camera
Semi-tricky root (check the MD5 sums of the files in the root directory!!)

Acer:
Pros:
Much better sound (speaker size, location and software all make a noticeable difference)
Flash on rear camera
USB ports
Easy root

Cons:
HEAVY -at first I liked the weight (I'm a big guy, large hands and HATE small/light/cheap feeling things, but this this is a beast)
useless USB-mini port (unless you're going to buy some adapter cables)
docking port
No good cases for it yet (though the Transformers aren't much better)
Did not stream media as well
wi-fi is spotty (connection speed drops a lot for no reason)
Screen attracts a LOT of finger prints
'grid' of screen is noticeable at times (with enough light and at just the right angle, it's not really distracting but some people might hate it)

So there's a quick run-down. So far the transformer is slightly ahead but I'm going to use the crap out of them this weekend before deciding.

Addition:

Another Pro for the Acer - rotation lock button on the side of the device
Con for the Acer - Location of the volume rocker when in landscape

This is both a con and a pro for both devices depending on your personal preferrence but the microSD card access for both is very different. Acer put it behind a small panel that you have to open up (which all current cases cover) and on the AT is on the side/bottom and just clicks in (no cover).

FYI - you can use this for any tablet they sell, whether the store has it in-stock or not. I just went to my local staples and they obviously didn't have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 32Gb in stock (as no staples stores do), so they bought it for me online, I payed at the register, and they are shipping to my house for free...coupon applied.

As long as you purchase IN-STORE, that's all they care. They don't care if they ship to you or you walk out the door with it.

I noticed the transformer doesn't have usb drive, how can you watch movies on this thing do you need to download some kind of player if you have movies on your laptop.
Also it mentions something about mini hdmi, is that similar to what the bionic will have cause I kind of would really like hdmi output to tv

I went in and played with all three tablets, except the galaxy. I'm not too interested in that since it's the most expensive and I feel as though samsung made it with the intent of making a pretty device as opposed to functional. The transformer supports more video formats. But the only problem with the transformer is that you need the dock for it if you want to put a usb...and I'm not sure but can you add an sd card if you don't have the dock? From what I saw all it had was the slot for the hdmi.

Is the transformer worth it if you don't buy the dock? The iconia is nice too and easy to root as someone mentioned. What advantage is there to rooting tablets though is it the same as phones

Just called Staples. They stated that this coupon code is ONLY for registered customers and must be issued direct to the customer. They will not accept this coupon if you were to walk in the store. Now, this was over the phone...maybe someone might be lucky to get passed the cashier???

Worked here in Nashville. I am NOT a registered customer, just saw this thread on the way out the door from work and printed it off. Got Accer for $299 (actually had to pick it up at another store, they are selling out here). Lesson to be learned, don't bother calling:icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

Calling just saves time and hassle. I called Best Buy shortly after this post and they said they'd honor the coupon. They grabbed me an Acer Iconia 500 and held it at the customer service counter. $325 out the door! Been using it the past couple days..sweeeeet. THANKS TO THE OP!!!!

Just to update you guys, my brother went to office depot today to get the transformer with the staples coupon and apparently they are not accepting it anymorre for the transformer.

They showed him an email I guess from corporate stating they would not honor it for the transformer.
