Factory Restore before installing Gingerbread...yes or no?

GB update came thru on its own (no reset by me) when done everything was normal as it was before with the very minor GB changes present.
No Drama.

Downloaded and installed the update last night without doing the factory reset. No changes to the home screen icons, downloaded apps, wallpaper etc. No return to factory defaults as I expected.

Finally got my update to download/install after monkeying with it for over 2 hours and a restart (which I was scolded soundly for doing by a level I VW tech.) First thing I noticed was that all my homescreen icons were different.

The thing that I like the very best? I've not received even one duplicate text message today.

My second favorite thing? When I unlock the screen, there is NO DELAY!!!!

I'm a happy woman!
