Force GPS to update??!?

I have no problem using Navigation with GPS enabled. It picks up my signal in a 10 - 15 seconds. The weird thing for me is that if I then click on Maps - it shows me a couple streets off. How can one be right and not the other? As long as it is still navigating me correctly I'm good to go!

Exactly! If I use the navigation, it picks up much faster. But when I just open the Maps app and just see where I'm at or where I'm driving to, it's useless.

Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2

Go to tools, manage a GPS state, reset.. its working for people on one of our sister sites.. try it and let us know.

Is this a long-term fix or do you have to do this every time you want to use the GPS? Thanks for providing this also. Appreciated to the fullest!

No go. I did this outside and not under trees, etc. If I understand the app, looks like there were up to 15 sattelites. When I look at my location on Maps, it still has me located less than a mile from where I actually am. In fact, it has me out in the middle of a canyon. Can't check navigation right now.

I noticed my house moved about 1/2 mile on Google maps. Wondered if it was phone or what. Then a relative tried to find our house for the first time using their iPhone, and was the same 1/2 mile off.Don't know what on the iPhone they were using for location.

Depending on what your GPS coordinates are showing, download open source from the PS, check and see if its not shoeing your location as being at a cell tower..
.

vzw doesn't use your phones location to show actual coordinates.. it uses cell towers..

Want to test it and see??. If you use family locator, and try to pull up a persons location, it will not accurately show it...

Is your stand alone GPS enabled??

To find out go into device setup, location consent, and see what you have enabled.

I've noticed this happening a few times since ICS. Its happened a few times during navigation and its almost like the map freezes and I've also noticed when not in nave mode, the gps icon in the upper left corner of the status bar blinking and "searching for GPS". As a side note, it seems like when this happens, it drains my battery much faster. It seems like this happens under two circumstances. 1. If I'm in a building with poor signal (GPS and CELL) and 2. after using the facebook app (which I now "kill" so it doesn't auto launch).

My "fix" is quite simple. I have a "toggle" key for GPS etc on one of my screens and just toggle GPS off for a second then back on and it works.

Hmm, I've just turned the standalone GPS off and then back on, and then reloaded the maps icon -- and it's still not showing the location. I'm still seeing the big blue circle. Is it the standalone that works in Google Maps or another one?

From my experience with it on the maxx and on another phone, its a combination of the cell signal and gps. The cell signal is the first to pinpoint your rough location which is why you get the huge blue circle. Once the rough location is pinpointed, the gps chip will pull in the more accurate location info.

Odd my GPS works very well, it shows my house right on the corner where it actually is. My problem is I loose GPS signal all the time, and it can take up to 5 minutes to re-acquire. Now for something completely different, the app that was recommended locks on to several satellites instantly!?! Wonder what gives?

This piece of **** GPS pisses me off every rime I launch this app. Despite the other cool features, I would have not gotten this phone had I known this. I'm going to be traveling a lot soon. Is there another app similar to maps?

Hmmmm. Haven't had a single problem with my GPS - it's always spot on. The big blue circle does come up occasionally, but zeros in within a few seconds. Running stock ICS.

Does it zeros in in a few seconds while you're driving though? Or only when you're at a standstill?

There is, type in navigation at the play store. Two that come to mind are Waze and Gps essentials, I haven't used either but have seen them mentioned several times.
