Renae,
The reason is not much camera specific, but more generally some of us need the camera or the gps or the video for what we deem important in our lives. Yes, we can buy separate devices to do these other things, but for a device that costs hundreds of dollars, and is marketed to do these other things, we need to make informed decisions. If all I needed for work was a phone, there are plenty of options out there, most of which would be given to me at no charge (for the hardware).
For my work I always need a phone and sometimes I need data, the camera and most certainly gps capability. A couple of years ago I too thought I only needed the phone as a phone for work. As I own my own company, these days I really do need the rest to stay competitive. And I do have standalone devices for these other functions, but to stay competitive I would then have to upgrade these other devices as well? We all have varing type of "needs".
At least these leaked spec's, real or not has let me do a little research. Specifically on the gps radio. It would appear that the D3 has a radio for data, a radio for GPS and a corresponding antenna for each. The Bionic appears (if Wiki is correct) that the phone likely has the two radios, but the signals are shared on the same antenna. What this means to me is that no way no how I will buy on a pre-release. I am gonna need to see feedback and GPS useage to see if the phone's GPS works properly in a no data area, or whether the shared antenna causes any other GPS issues.
And as I posted somewhere else here, it looks as if my Mpeg4 videos, all which took me a VERY long time to rip will require a 3rd party application to work. Probably not a big deal, but why moto would downgrade the video playback support is very puzzling to me.
But, I will get more definative when I can go to motodev and find the spec's in a side by side comparison for myself. Right now I cannot do this, so there is some suspicion in my mind about these specs.
