If you have been fortunate enough to either use or simply try out the "Smart Actions" functionality control on the new Motorola Droid RAZR, then you can probably attest to how cool and useful a feature it is. It really makes your smartphone feel "smart," allowing for a great degree of flexibility and even improving battery life, by creating time-scheduled automated tasks like turning on/off WIFi or Bluetooth, dimming your screen, create customized news feeds and much more.
Of course, if you don't have the Droid RAZR, it may simply leave you feeling a bit of "Smart Actions"-envy. Luckily, there are alternatives. Those of us without a Droid RAZR do not have to fall prey to the "green-eyed monster of jealousy" because there is another third party app on the Google Play Store, that mimics quite a few features of "Smart Actions." It is called, Phone Schedule, and while it isn't quite as robust and powerful as the actual Smart Actions for the RAZR, it can still provide you with a plethora of customizable options to tweak the functionality of just about any Android phone. Here's a quote from the PhoneArena article with a few details:
The features that you can schedule include Silent mode, Wi-Fi on/off, Bluetooth on/off and Airplane mode on/off. Certain volumes can be raised or lowered to exact levels at specific times on specific days like Notification volume, Ringer volume, Media volume and Alarm volume. You can also have different ringtone and notification tones at different times of the day. Display brightness can be controlled and you can even schedule any app to open at a given time on certain days of the week (although that is experimental right now).
Obviously there are a few good competitors already available that do similar things, but it's still great to see developer's continue to push the envelope on what our "smart"-phones are capable of. Phone Schedule is an impressive product, and is worth your time to check out.
