If you chose GDE or any other home app as a default app, you can cancel it out so it gives you the option by going to Menu>applications>GDE>Clear Cache
I am setting up my screens and for the fun of it I added the widget "application dock" just to see what it was.
Basically it added a shaded strip to the page and I have no idea what it is supposed to do, or how to get rid of it. It wont let me long press and drag to the trash

yea, its frustrating to have to figure things out without any clues.
FYI. when you press on the dock for about 2 seconds and once it becomes movable, you can hold it to the edge of the screen and drag it to the next screen too or higher or lower on the screen for that matter... as long as nothing is in the way.
