My understanding is that new ppl can't get unlimited data plans...we can't even lower our minutes or we would lose our unlimited data that came from Verizon....if I'm wrong plz let me know
I don't know exactly what the rules are, but a guy I work with switched from a flip-phone to a DroidX last Friday & he got unlimited data with no problem for $30 a month.
It should not be a problem to switch to the 700 min plan. Verizon does not tier there data plans as of right now. If the rep says there's no unlimited data I would ask to speak to his manager.
Actually, it was the 6900...HTC Touch branded by Verizon...what I upgraded from to my Droid X last September. Same basic "guts" of the 6800, minus the WiFi chip and a mechanical keyboard....great phone for what it was...
well i know someone who has a smartphone after the data plan requirement without the data plan. verizon first added the data plan automatically to the account. they then called verizon and threatened to cancel the account or remove the data plan and they removed it. they are still using it. but i guess noone thinks this can be done again
I would NOT risk spending that kinda of dough off contract and count on stiff arming Verizon into cancelling you data plan. Highly unlikely. Data plans are Verizon's cash cow right now. At the cheapest they used to offer that 250mb $15 data plan. I have a feeling its going tiered sometime this year. :'(

Well, that maybe true but since it had no WiFi it was kinda useless with no data package. The xv6800 did have WiFi so it could be used online any place with free WiFi. My son was in college at the time & had WiFi 24/7. He used an xv6800 for two years with no data & it worked very well.
