Getting Dinc2 soon

To fill you in, I currently have a D2G and I am being sent the Dinc2 soon, it's one of 2 phones they could send me for free in place of my D2G. I'm super excited to be with HTC now but I've always wondered on the Dock, is there a way to change the 3 icons. It comes with Phone, App Drawer and a Paint app. IDK why in hell they would put paint on there instead of TXT but can it be changed in stock by long pressing or something else?

I will probably just be putting GO Launcher on it anyways, but I really like that arched dock bar HTC has to offer.

Also wondering about Gingerbread. I think you guys got gingerbread recently, correct? How is that going? Any major problems like I had in the D2G soak test?

I'm running GO Launcher on mine because Sense didn't have a dock and GO lets me put more icons on the screen. That isn't Paint on the arch, but a button to customize screen. Didn't like it there also when it is also under settings. GB is working great. I did root mine just to freeze all the bloatware it came with. So far loving my Dinc2. I had an OG Droid before this.

Cool. What's the root method for the phone. I loved Z4 on froyo, but I didn't feel like getting involved in the "1 click D3 root method" for my D2G on GB. But I might root the Dinc2 if its easy.

I'm also looking into cases on ebay and amazon. So far I think I'm gonna stay away from the Otterbox Defender, but might look into the commuter if its not as bulky as the commuter I had for this phone.

Pretty simple as long as you can follow instructions accurately. Root has been great so far.

There's a great (maybe I'm just cocky) guide to root stickied in the dinc2 hacking section of this forum. There aren't any one click roots out because to get S-off you need to connect to a computer. GB on the DINC2 is VERY stable and only has a couple very minor bugs. I bought a case but took it off once and lost it lol but no matter what the cases for the D2G will be bulkier just because of the keyboard. There is no way to change what shortcuts are in the dockbar, but if it bothers you too much you can just install a 3rd party launcher or install a stock rom.

Ok, I will look further into that once the phone arrives and I get used to it.

Another question hopefully you can help answer:

The new phone is going to come with a 16gb SD card, I'm used to having 8 on board and my 8 removeable. Is there a way to transfer my data in the 8gb card in my D2G to the 16gb card coming in the Dinc2? My computer has little SD card slots on the side of it, could it be as simple as saving the cards info to my PC and then copying it to the new card? I am assuming that's the solution, but I am slow and would need to be walked threw it, lol

Yes, you could take the card out and throw it into a PC card reader, but actually it's even easier than that. If you hook up your phone to a computer via USB, you can mount the SD card as a disk drive on your PC (you should be able to access this option from the status bar once USB is connected) . No card removal required.

As far as GB, it seems that most people with issues were those who had already been using froyo and then did an upgrade. Your phone will come with GB and may have a maintenance update waiting when you get it. I am running MIUI, but I had no issues at all for the month I ran stock GB before root was released for it.

As for your launcher, you would want to use a replacement launcher, as the sense bar can't be changed. There is a thread over at XDA that has a bunch of sense looking docks for the replacement launchers so you can make it look like the sense dock. Ok, I kinda expected it to come with Froyo, since the phone specs on VZW wireless still show it running 2.2 but its cool if it comes with GB.

As for the launcher its alright if the stock launcher can't br changed. I have always used seperate ones like ADW or LauncherPro, but have been using GO Launcher for quite a while now. I find it the best out of them all.

Most of the ones shipping now have GB loaded already. If they are sending you a refurb as a replacement for your D2G, then it will come loaded with the newest release straight from New Breed (the company that does the refurbishing for Verizon).

I also love Go Launcher. I used LPP for a while, but then it became buggy so I went to ADW EX and sure, GO Launcher is not quite as customizable as ADW EX, but it is definitely the smoothest and has the best graphics and animations and is not hard on the battery at all.

I'm going to be pissed if they send me a refurbished Dinc2. I thought about it earlier today. I guess the only way I will be able to tell if its new or refurbished will be the box it comes in...? All of my refurbished ones come boxed in the bent cardboard with the plastic wrap stretched over the phone keeping it in place. The phone I'm getting better come in a little VZW box with instructions, charger, cable and Global outlet attatchments(if the Dinc2 is a global phone like I believe it is).

I find GO launcher very customizeable. As much if not more than the others because it has settings I actually use as compared to the rest. That and it has a huge assortment of free themes and other free GO apps. I love GO weather with the LG theme widget and GO SMS with the iPhone theme. And GO Notifications for the Facebook bubble. Lol. Love it all. Oh and Black Glass GO Launcher theme.

Did they make you use an upgrade to get it? If not and it was done under warranty or Total Equipment Protection, you will likely get a refurb. Typically when they do that though, they will make you buy the battery at a discount (or sometimes free) since they ship just the phone with refurbs. Did they say anything about the battery coming separately from the phone? Unless you extended your contract, you are likely getting a refurb.

Well she was so quick on the phone. She said the only 2 free options were the DX and the Dinc2 and never said anything about the other stuff. I guess I could call tomorrow and find out the full details. But she led me to believe I was getting the full phone, new, for no extra charge and my contract should still be the same. I just have to send back my D2G.

After the phone call I was also worried if he lady sebd me a Dinc instead of the 2 by some crazy chance. Then the case and screens I ordered earlier tonight would be useless.
