Getting replacement phone in the mail today...

According to Verizon, all my Google synced stuff will come down again (contacts, calendar, etc), and all my paid apps will come back. But I'm going to lose all my free apps and will need to reinstall them by hand separately.

Is there any way to get the free apps I have installed up till now to come down automatically to the new phone.

I have an account on appbrain. Is there some I can use that?

Andy

None of the apps come back automatically whether you paid for them or not but google knows what apps you paid for so you don't have to pay again. You have to download them again.

Appbrain will make it much easier. If you still have the bad phone working just install the appbrain app on it and sync it. Then with the new one just go install appbrain on it and it will let you download them all automatically, paid and free.

if you still have the old phone and it still works you can install astro file manager its free in the market and it will allow you to backup all your apps even paid and apps you installed outside of the market to your sd card.

I just went through this yesterday. After you activate the phone and login to your google account, put the phone down for about half an hour or so (put it on the charger), just step away. I found that almost all my apps (free and paid) were restored when I did that. It even restored my home screen layout (but not the layout for Helix launcher).

It doesn't always work and messing about with the phone (in particular, going into the market seems to muck it up), but it's worth a try.

I'll try it!

I'll give that a try. If it call comes down, that would be cool. I'll try and stick it on wifi to speed things along.

I have Astro

How do I get to this setting?

ill assume you already downloaded it from the market.

open astro then press menu select tools and then "application manager/backup" then the rest should be self explanatory.

Got the new phone. Astro was a life saver! Have had a couple of spontaneous reboots, but I chalk that up to 10 different apps all trying to sync to the Internet at one.

Thanks for everyone's help!

The replacement phone was a dud. Kept rebooting on me over and over again. Another one is on it's way now through Fedex. The "like new" replacement unit wasn't like-new at all.

Ok, phone #2 is good. I used Astro to backup and transfer my apps. When I go into the marker, the only downloaded apps I see are the ones I paid for. Will the market app still be able to find updates for the apps I have installed, so I don't have to go install every single app again?
