Nah snowman, start to finish maybe 3-4 hours. But if you're like me, I like to take my time setting up things fresh as I need them so I do it gradually over the course of a few days. But its worth it.

I updated to ICS hours after receiving my phone and probably before installing any additional apps. Now that I have installed numerous apps, adjusted the settings etc., other than poor battery life (compared to my dumb phone) and occasional freezing while overwhelming the phone with errant taps and retaps, I really have no complaints. Would there be any benefits from a factory reset?
If you feel your phone is working well, then you should be fine not doing an FDR. If you find that your phone starts to have lots of errors when doing various tasks, is getting slow /laggy, restarts on it's own, etc...then an FDR will fix those issues. I have had phones that I frequently did an FDR because it just couldn't handle all the stuff I wanted to throw at it. With my current phone, the only time I have done an FDR is when I installed ICS, installed an update leak, and when I rooted (when I made significant changes to the os) and my phone has always run like new no matter what I throw at it. As soon as I start to have problems with its performance, then I'll do an FDR. It works very nice to get a brand new operating phone.

Does a FDR save the last version update, in this case ICS, or does that need to be downloaded again?
Yes, the FDR will keep your latest update of ICS, including if you have the .215 leak installed.

I'm not sure, it's nothing I did on my own. As far as I can tell I have Verizon version 6.16.217, Android version of 4.0.4

TisMyDroid, I just registered on this forum simply to say THANK YOU to you!:hail: My droid has been acting funny for the last couple of months and then when it tried to download ICS a few days ago, it finally pretty much quit on me. I knew I had to do a factory data reset but was scared I'd lose everything. Searching around on the internet I found your post at the top of this thread. I did everything you said and it all worked perfectly. Thank you, thank you, a thousand times thank you.
One strange thing that happened I would like to relate, in case it might help someone else. I used My Backup to back up everything except my texts. After the fdr, when I restored everything, it all came back perfectly. A couple of hours later, my battery was running low, so I decided to do a battery reset ala FoxKat as you suggested. I powered the phone down, then charged it with the charger I've always used (the one that came with the phone). When it was fully charged, and I turned it on again, all my pictures were gone, except for 11 that had been downloaded from emails. Poof, 450 pictures that had been taken with my phone camera - gone. So I went to My Backup and tried to restore again, and all that was there were those 11 pictures. I knew (well, was hoping!) that they had to be there somewhere because they had all restored fully after the fdr. So, I connected my phone to my iMac and sure enough they were all there. I backed them all up to the computer, and when I disconnected the phone and checked my gallery, they all showed up back on the phone again. No idea how that happened - I didn't move them from the computer to the phone, just from the phone to the computer. I contacted Rerware to let them know about it, and the support person had no idea why that happened. All my other files on My Backup (apps, data, music, etc.) were/are still there, just the photo ones went missing.
So, to add to your wonderful advice, I would also recommend backing up anything you are particularly nervous about to your computer in addition to My Backup. I should have done that in the first place. But all's well that ends well, and TisMyDroid, you have a new fan. :biggrin: Many thanks again!

We're all very proud of TisMyDroid (or "Tis"/"TMD" as we sometimes affectionately call her). She's been a huge and valuable addition to our staff and needless to say a tremendous and incredibly helpful resource to the members at large.
