Ive been waiting for this to leak out and become official, now that is has been my question is, On the new platform of Gingerbread has anyone heard of or knows of the app that Google bought "Blindtype" is going to be released with this update? I sure hope so.

Dont think so. It was orriginally speculated that it would but the leaked keyboard is definately not blindtype. Its possible they will both be included i just dont think so.

So is this going to be another OTA update that is going to require me to re-root my Droid 2 again?

That's what I would do. Not like you have to worry though the official update will take quite some time. If you're rooted and running a rom you'll prob end up with some flavor of gb before its release.

if your using a custom rom it should have OTA updates disabled so you wont have to worry about an update automatically being sent to your phone.

then when gingerbread is rooted install a gingerbread rom.

now if your just using a stock rom thats rooted then you will get an update notification every 30 min or so.

No I'm on stock rom. I did the 2.3.20 update and re-rooted with minimal hassles.... but I waited a while and did alot of reading here about what people were saying, so that I could avoid being one of the ones who made a "HELP!!!" thread LOL

Yeah I did the same thing. You can always wait and see what everyone else is experiences like.

Before I rooted the first time I did ALOT of reading on it. Not just here but other sites as well. I read all the "HELP!!!" threads to see what mistakes other were making. I read all the threads about what to do after rooting, I read so much my eyes were about crossed. I'm pretty "tech savvy" but this being my first smartphone I wanted to make damn sure I didn't pay all that money only to end up with a paperweight. I did it right the first time, and the only "mistake" I made was deleting a couple of bloatware apps, which I had to put back before I got the 2.3.20 OTA. Rooting the second time was much easier. Now I have those bloatware apps frozen in Titanium Backup so I will just have to defrost them, run the update and re-root.

Which does bring me to a question, will there be a period of time between when the update comes out and when it will be rooted? Or will the rooting methods that are already out work on the new update immediately?

That's the million dollar question. It depends on whether or not they plug these exploits. That's why you wait to see if it works.

Oh I will definitely be declining that update when it comes to my phone. (Which I just checked and nothing is there yet)

Thanks for the info. :)

i just got an OTA update right now and now it says i have 2.2.1 when i look at "about phone". i was expecting a surprise advance on gingerbread.

but i thought i already had 2.2.1 .... what the heck just happened?

and with that last update my phone was unusable for over 3 hours, this time it was minutes. i feel smart about my phone until i visit this site =/ hahaha
