You'd have to sbf back to froyo before your phone will accept the update.

Lol, go Reds! Yeah, I got it twice yesterday, the first time I had clockwork installed so i couldn't install it. The second time I was SBFed and ready. Looking at the thread in the soak forum, they only sent it out twice yesterday and idk if they'll do it again today.

even if they are a tool to some, its not like a defibrillator or dilation machine thats got bogus firmware or something.
the OTA will come when it comes. If its that important to have GB, use update.zip/bootsrap .596.

So I am want to root my stock phone, should I wait until the GB OTA is released? Also any suggestions on ROM's, backup apps?

Dude, the majority of us will not see an OTA until later this week at best.

If you root before you update you'll loose root when you update. I don't think you can root ota gb yet.

Actually, you can immediately turn around and re-root, using z4Root. I just got done doing it yesterday.

Wait what? This totally throws a wrench in all my plants, I was just about to update with the 2 part install method to maintain root but if you say z4 root works after OTA update... wtf?
