gmail hacked in the middle of the night

One other possibility that no one has touched on is that your PC not your phone was hacked. There are thousands of rootkits that can easily compromise your PC. Your Password may have be recorded by a keylogger on your computer.

You need to make sure that you are running a proper antivirus and firewall (a third party one not the crappy windows one) and that your system and programs like flash and java are fully updated and patched.

If you have any popups that claim your computer in infected then you need to get your system to a good computer service company at once. Lots of fake antivirus programs are in realilty rootkits designed to monitor and hack your accounts.

my thoughts exactly...it most likely happened on your PC. Have you downloaded any keygen programs or anything lately that came from an unverifiable source?

How "strong" was your original password? When I hear about this kind of thing I often wonder if the password was "mygmail" or "Rjdu847kshEE".

Of course, if it was a rootkit at work, it wouldn't matter.

sounds like a keylogger at work...a brute force password attack would take extremely long to crack something like that and it wouldnt be worth the time just to get into someones email. Dont change any passwords on that computer. If you have done any online banking or bought anything in the past week online thru paypal or any other site I HIGHLY reccomend changing all passwords on another secure computer for now until you figure out the problem.

Load Gmail on your PC

Look at the bottom of the screen
"Last account activity: 2 hours ago on this computer. Details"

Click details you should see a list of IP addresses

Then go to IP Chicken - Whats my IP address? ip address lookup and see your IP

You can find the ip address of the "bad people" and maybe include it in an email to gmail about being "hacked" "highjacked" whatever.

Hacked!

I joined this forum last night and within hours my Gmail account was hacked into. (I have had the account since Gmails were invite only and have never had a problem with this before and I have multiple accounts!)
Someone send mass a spam through the hacked account and Gmail was disabled. Is it a Droid issue or this forum? Anyone know?
**EDIT** I just looked at the recent activity on the Gmail account that was compromised and the Hacker's location was in France (I am in the US)- Here is their IP address: 79.85.9.252

It not the Droid or the Forum....

Also perhaps a phishing site. Sometimes it's easy to overlook an URL on the phone's browser. Especially considering which browser you use as some don't always show the URL textfield. Just another possibility not touched on. Mare sure you use different passwords for social sites and business. Would suck to compromise everything. Hope you got it all worked out. Keep us updated.

Do you think I could have been hacked because of an app I downloaded to my Droid? My password is pretty obscure so guessing isn't really an option. I am concerned that all my private info is so easily obtainable.

I'm guessing either a keylogger on your PC or a phishing site. It's always a possibility of a rogue app and that's why before they install they need to tell you what part's of the os they can obtain access to. A flashlight app has no reason to access your personal data for example.

If you do suspect an app then all means name it and I will look into it. Google has pulled a few apps recently but not for stealing passwords.

Thanks! Funny you should mention "Flashlight" I had a couple of Flashlight apps and until your post I assumed (wrongly) that all apps were somehow approved prior and never bothered to really pay attention to what info they would need access. (I am new to this type of phone). I have uninstalled most new apps added and will now be careful when going forward! Thanks again!
