Gmail market update

I seem to be having the same problem with the market. I installed 9 but it didn't come with the new market, and When I install the new market (through uninstall in titaium and running the APK found elsewhere) but then every time it boots i get force closes. How do I get past that.

I am running Liberty 0.9 on a Droid 2. I uninstalled the existing GMail using the Liberty Toolbox, then went to the market and downloaded GMail (2.3.5), and it downloaded and installed without a problem.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Joeonetime!!! this worked for me.
Took a short time to sync back up but it worked.

Thanks for the help.

I did an backup then uninstalled using Titanium Backup. Rebooted. Download GMail from the market.

Install was successful!

that worked for me, uninstall through liberty then install from market, so I tried the same method for the new market (backed up in liberty then uninstalled, then isntalled the APK) but no dice, force closes every time i try to open it. and now I don't know where liberty made the backup of the old market. I might have to end up hunting down that APK

You will need to clear market cashe, download manager cashe in settings uninstall market reboot your phone and download market .apk to your SD card look under downloads folder that's where mine goes. If you need the .apk just Google for it if you still can't find it let me know I'll send you mine :-)

Just as a small tidbit. This is not a liberty bug. The theme is installing a themed and unsigned version of gmail over the top of the one that is installed stock by liberty.

This just makes it so you can't update it since the two packages / apks aren't signed the same. The market sees it as a corrupt apk.

This happens on occasion with themes.

Normally what I do is just force remove the old app using titanium, liberty toolbox, or absolute system, reboot, reinstall from market, the fix permissions.

After you force remove it you do have to reboot or else you'll get that "incompatible update" error.

Sent from Eugene. And yes, my phone has a name.

So your saying this is a theme issue? Either way loads of ppl are all running into this problem there should be a fix so it just works without jumping thru hoops..

From what I can tell, the theme dev just sign the themed gmail apk. So yes, its a theme issue. Just a small thing that he overlooked.

It happens sometimes. Stealth was like that with Maps for me. I just force remove and reinstall. I hardly thing that's jumping through hoops considering we rooted our phones, have probably sbf'd, installed a third party ROM, and installed a theme on top of that.

If it annoys you so much though it may be a good idea to bring it to the theme devs attention and just let him / her know what the issue is. He / she can come out with a patch / new theme file, or if you feel up to it, mod the theme .zip with the stock signed gmail and reflash the theme.

I would suggest the first if you are a little noobish though.

Ok we are talking in 2 diff threads..lol But this does pose another question.. This also seems to be happening to a couple of other NON system apps like weather bug elite for an example had this prob too.. I can understand system apps but not 3rd party apps.. And yes I will always claim n00b as I am always learning something new ;)
