Gmail push question (problem?)

I am also having problems with my Gmail. I have auto-sync on, both in the widget and in settings, yet my Gmail messages don't pop up instantly. I literally have to go into the app for new emails to appear.

I tested this by sending an email to myself on my computer, and waited and waited and nothing happened on my phone. Then I open the app and as soon as I do I get a notification saying 1 new e-mail. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

G-mail worked perfectly for me on the Droid 2 yet I'm lost beyond words with this current problem.

I actually have push working, however, I also want the mail icon on my home screen to reflect the amount of emails I have in my mail box. Currently, when i receive emails, it appears in the notification bar...but not with the mail icon on the home screen shortcut. I have sync setup as well as mail to get the mail shortcut working. Is there anything i can do to get the mail numbers updated?

I have found when I am seeing weirdness I try a reboot and that seems to clear things up. I still dont get why I need to have autosync enabled when it push but whatever.

Try a reboot.

I think you guys are looking at 2 different apps. At least that is what I was doing. The one that has a message count on the envelope checks for mail on a schedule ( you can adjust the schedule). I think that one looked like a white envelope. ( i removed it) The one that has a red "M" popping out of an envelope does not count messages, shows up in the task bar when you get a new message does do "push".
