Goodwill, yard sales and Craigslist finds...

An oldie but goodie. Sennheiser MM 550X Wireless Bluetooth Headphones. Original MSRP, $550.00. Price paid, $70.00 They had been in a glass case at a local salvage wholesale warehouse that buys returns and damaged package goods from Amazon.Com among other retailers. They typically priced items at 50% of retail as their highest price, but often sold items at far below that. This one pair of headphones however sat in that case for weeks, just starting at me as I frequented the store and begging me to buy them. I just couldn't take the plunge.

Then one day I visited them and off the cuff I asked if they might consider reducing the price. The first response was no, but then the clerk said, "It's a shame you didn't come in yesterday, everything was half price.". Apparently I had missed the motherlode. So I pressed the issue and he called the manager in. The manager asked the clerk what the date of arrival was (when they originally priced and displayed them), and once he had that info he said to me, if you want them, you can have them for $70, which was even less than the $112.25 I could have bought then for the day before.

Why price them so much lower? Well perhaps because they didn't sell at half off, and perhaps also because they sat in the case so long. Maybe even because technology moves so quickly that the fear was the longer they sit there the less valuable they become rather rapidly.

The battery comes out and the charging port, a micro USB port is actually right on the battery!

They're really an experience. They might seem "dirty", or " low class", but they're really what I would call diverse, both in patrons and products. You'll see a lot of clothing and housewares, but they usually have a small section, either a back corner or rear wall, or a specific aisle devoted to electronics. You might also see the infrequent electronic device sitting on top of one of the aisle row tops. It's like a scavenger hunt in a way. They usually also have glass cases that double as their checkout counter, where they might keep the higher end smaller devices. This is where I found the Hesh 2 Wireless headphones.

Sometimes I come away empty handed and other times I hit the jackpot. It's really a good bit fun as well.

I only shop when I need something. Hate people or being near them.
OK, I can understand that. I don't particularly find myself magnetically attracted to strangers as well. Still, for a quick visit, I can often come away with a great find.

I haven't been in one in years but my wife loves the experience, my daughter is working her way through college at one, many friends and family get into texting conversations over their treasure hunt finds. If I need a pair of work pants or something I just tell my wife the size and color and she always finds them easily. Why pay $40 for pants that just get torn up anyway?
Look for tags when you go in because different days have different special discounts based on tag color. I think there's a sign stating what color is on sale each day.

Yes, just yesterday I copped a cover for my Samsung Tab that was tagged with a half off color making it $11. It's a $60 cover.

OK, so they were missing the shades. My wife spotted (pun intended), a pair of shades that really add spice to them. The lamps were $12.97 each, the shades were $1.97 each. Total paid $29.88. Suggested retail price $785 each (with original shades). Total value $1,570. Not bad for a pair of designer lamps. @TisMyDroid should be impressed with them.

Actually there are a couple variations of this lamp made by Regina Andrew. These have feet whereas the ones at Bloomingdale don't. Personally I like the feet better.

Yeah, one of those things you really have no idea what they're worth till you do the research, however two lamps with shades for under $30 is a deal pretty much no matter how you slice it. These things are HEAVY! Solid crystal and the crystal is 1.5" thick! They're three way bulb lamps as well making them very suitable for living room or bedroom.

I haven't been to either of our Goodwill stores in years, may have to stop in once in a while.

I'm telling you, it's crazy what you might find there. Some have great electronics, others is all junk. Some have fantastic housewares as evidenced above, others look really trashy. Just got to scan through them.

The older store in town is normally trashy, that's why I stopped going. They did build a brand new one about a year ago. Might be time to check it out.
