Google Maps issue (Just started)

Google Maps was working fine for me this morning. I noticed there was an update available, so I installed it, and then Maps stopped working. It kept giving a network error. I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted, etc. Nothing seemed to help.

I called *611 and talked with various levels of tech-support for about an hour. Nothing helped. About 10 minutes after hanging up with tech-support, Google Maps was working fine again. Of course, I am back to the factory default version, and I don't know if it is safe to try the upgrade again.

So, this brings up an interesting question. Is there anyway to download google maps? At least the basic map (for GPS or whatever) in case the online maps go down or you are out of service range. I would feel a lot better if I knew my GPS would work regardless of cell coverage.

just checked mine. It can locate my location but wont load maps around me if I ecroo around. Hope they fix soon too

Old thread, I know... but I just started experiencing this as well.

As of a few days ago, built-in Navigation app fails with "Data connection reset" (or maybe "Data connection lost"). I have rebooted phone, tried to get directions at different times of day, to and from different locations.

Steps to reproduce--

Start Navigation app. Enter destination. It shows map and my current (correct) GPS location in dimmed out map, while a "connecting" message appears on top. After about 60 seconds, voice says that data connection has been lost, and the spinner continues to spin indefinitely.

If I exit that screen and try again, I get same results. I use Navigation 2-3 times per day, and it has worked well for the past 2+ years. This problem is very new. I have killed app and restarted, and I have hard-reset device and tried as well. Same results each time. Phone has been rooted for 2+ years. I have not made any updates to the phone recently, and have not added any new apps. Based on the "data connection lost" message, it gives me the impression that the server side is hanging up on the request for directions. Or???

I use it everyday and it works fine on my DNA I'm actually loving the new UI works better than ever . I don't understand why everyone seems to have problems hopefully Google irons out the wrinkles for everyone...

If you've hard-reset the phone (in other words factory reset, where it reinstalls the OS and wipes the memory clean), and it still does this, then I am leaning heavily to a hardware failure. The only other possibility I can conceive is if you've installed a new ROM just before the problem cropped up.
