I use this feature to keep track of my time for work, as a mobile contractor it's incredibly useful for keeping tabs, and also for proving location stamps and times for customers that want to challenge my bills, lol. Probably good (or bad) for the occasional cranky girlfriend with trust issues as well.

It's not very accurate. According to this I was in my helicopter not driving on the highway.

Yea I don't think they assume even a fraction of people would be flying around in a helicopter bro, lol. After calculating your path and speed, it probably assumed GPS errors and defaulted to the highway regardless of path, but on start/stop of destination and elapsed time. It operates as background data so the sampling is limited.
