Google Voice Activated but not in Status bar?

Ok so i have Google Voice set as my main voicemail setting but everytime I get a voicemail it goes to stock and then that annoying little icon is stuck up there and although it says to call the Google Voice number it wont go away unless i call the stock voicemail...Am i missing something? Whats going on???

have you set verizon to forward voicemails?

if you go to google voice on the web - you can get instructions on what you need to dial on your phone tomake it forward calls to google voice for voicemail instead of the stock voicemail. The google voice app can't make that change as far as I know.
