Google Voice: Anyone cancel their texting plans?

I'm confused, how do you text with Google Voice?

Click on your "voice" icon for Google Voice > hit your "Menu" button > hit "Compose" > and do everything as you normally would to send a normal text message.

Still confused, how do you click on the GV icon without it automatically opening the app? Unless you mean hit Menu once inside the app, in which case I have no Compose function anywhere. Or are you guys logging into the web version of GV on your phones?

You have to open the Google Voice app to use Google Voice for text messaging. If you do not have a "compose" button once the app is open, then make sure you have the latest version of the app installed. Open the "market" on your phone and search for "Google Voice", download and install, or update the one you have, whichever option you are presented with.

Kids avg. 13-15k per month.....so No...I won't be...Actually would be crazy to get rid of it....lol

Said it was fully upgraded, build 0.3.0? I uninstalled and reinstalled just in case but still no Compose button. I guess I don't have this thing set up right or something.

You need to go to the menu --> Labels --> SMS. Once you are in SMS, you can then use the menu to compose messages.

for those who have canceled, how are you doing with your sms not being instant? i still have text enabled but notifications off. because when you get a text it then triggers gvoice to check for updates.

i would not mind getting rid of sms and blocking it, but i would like to have my sms instant

I just got it working.... log onto Google voice click on "GET A GOOGLE VOICE NUMBER" you can pick a new local number in your area code or zip code. it sets it up again. then open GV>Menu>Compose

I Just sent my wife a text and she says "who is this?" lol because of my new GV number LOL

I'm going to cancel this month. I've only used a single text message and that was from mobile defense.

@illmaticone texts are almost instant with GV's one minute polling but not quite.

edit: I see, I thought the Google Access Number was my Google Number, but it wasn't.

now we just need handcent to allow us to send a text via out GV number instead of our Verizon number. if I can cancel my txt messages I'd save myself $10 a month just by using GV.

Are we able to use the built-in Messaging client for GV or are we stuck with the GV client for the time being? I just found out about this an hour ago so it's all new to me. It'll save me 20 bucks a month though, so hell yeah.

For free texts, you'll have to use the app or do it via a browser

There is a google voice app

Getting charged for texts anyway...

So I started using Google Voice awhile ago for texts and voice mail. I do seem to have an issue.

First, I would get 3 separate notices that I received a text
-Google voice
-My email (I have it set to send me an email for sms to GV)
-and finally my sms on my account. (i had unchecked the "send to sms" box in the settings...yet it still sends them.

I pretty much always used my GV app to send and receive texts. Got my bill this month. 150 messages charged. When I looked at my breakdown...I was sending texts to AND receiving texts from my google number.

So...what the heck is doing this? I mean, I am most defintely not using my own sms program on my phone to send it to GV...so I dont know what is up.
