Google Voice

I don't understand why people just don't go to Ebay and purchase one for 2 or 3 $. I waited for 5 months before I realized I could get one for less than a pack of smokes.

I guess because of these reasons.

1. SCAMnERS on Ebay. People hijack Ebay accounts with good karma and then sell things like this to stay under the radar and make some quick cash.

2. Google originally intended the numbers to be by invite, and to be free. I am sure the Google Voice team are not very happy about invites being sold on Ebay. I don't even want to be associated with that scam.

3. I would rather receive a Google invite from someone I know, rather than some Joe Blow internet scam artist/hustler.

Just a wild guess, are you one of those hundreds of Google Invite spam posters that use different names to post your 10 Ebay auctions for Google invites as responses to blogs, forums, etc? Why would you even care what peoples reasons are unless you were getting frustrated that nobody is paying you 2-3 bucks for a Google Voice Invite.

Google is an awesome company, their intent was to provide a free service, FREE OF CHARGE, not some clever way for internet hustlers to make a buck. I say BOYCOTT people trying to sell something that should otherwise be free.

If there is one thing that Google has not quite figured out yet is that they have no idea how to meet with supply and de
mand. I was simply trying to offer an alternative to waiting around for months at a time waiting on Google to send out more invites. You do as you wish. Oh BTW, if I were an eBay scammer I sure wouldn't be selling GV invites.

Well there are reasons why Google is cornering such a giant portion of the market share in so many different areas. I am sure it's not because they have yet to figure out how to market themselves properly. Actually I would suggest the oposit. I would say that Google has marketed Google Voice brilliantly. They have created huge demand while still in the process of fleshing out the Google Voice service. They recently purchased another company that provides VOIP. If Google holds true to their past endeavors this would mean that they will have a small release, like they have, listen to their most excited customers, fix issues, bugs, add services, create a truly unique system before they launch it to the general public. Unlike Microsuck that releases a buggy product long overdue that is sluggish at best.

Matter of fact, if you want to get really into Googles marketing strategy, they are utilizing some of the same exact marketing reasoning that open source platforms do. Ironic that one of those very platforms in the very one which runs on Android, which is after all another brilliant marketing strategy by Google.

So lets see...

Create excitement

Add functionality and usability before public release

Build a social network of people who have all connected through friends or co-workers or through some other means, of people who use phone service.

Actually sounds right off the top of my head, as a brilliant strategy. And look at all the free advertising. Even people like you are talking about Google Voice and causing more writing, which in effect is really advertising. You are advertising for Google, you don't even realize it and you will never be paid for it.

So, erm, what do you do for a living that you have such deep insight into Google's business practices?

I'm down for a google voice invite if anyone comes across any. I'm not so excited that I'll pay for it, but if someone has one I'd be more than happy to try it out and spread the love back in the forum should I get one to give out down the road.

OK, next one that calls somebody a name is going to get an infraction. Name calling is not allowed in the Droid Forums, you guy should know better then that.

Now let's just have a quiet evening and no more fighting. And I will be deleting the problem posts.
