Handcent Emoji Plug-in not working with iPhone?

Installed the Handcent Emoji Plug-in and it is supposed to be able to send to my GF's iPhone with Emoji... our texts mutually do not get received by each other's phone if we include Emoji in the sms's.

Anyone know what may be going on?
