Do you have to delete the stock droid messenger in order to eliminate duplicates. I installed handcent and now I get two messages one from messenger and one from handcent. Or is there a way to make one the default? Thanks

No, you do not get two copies of the message, but you do get two notifications. To stop that go into the stock messaging application. Go to Settings and turn off notifications. Then you will only get one notification.
