Hello from NY

Hi! Android73 here from NY.

Glad to find a nice discussion/tech forum like this to get the most out of my droid... along with meeting some nice folks here as well :) I bought a Eris Droid a week and a half ago but I was completely put off with the battery lasting me 2/3 a day at best. I returned it to Verizon Monday and bought the Motorola Droid. I'm glad I did. The Eris was a great phone but the Motorola Droid offers so much more in my opinion.

I can't believe I waited this long to take advantage of smartphones & 3G. I do a lot of cross country motorcycle riding and it really pays to have a pocket sized device like this to stay in contact with... well EVERYTHING! Laptops aren't real saddlebag friendly... LoL. I picked up an extra battery & a battery charger, and I also bought one of the multimedia stations basically as a home charger. I have the ever useful car charger obviously for the car, and the stock charger that came with it will just go in my work bag or when I travel.

I was computer tech savy about 8 years ago but 8 years is more than enough time to fall out of the loop. 6 months would do it these days, right? I had a few questions and I figure a lot of Droid tech savvy people may read this so here goes:

1. The cache would sort of be the PC equivelent of "temporary internet files"? If I want to clear out ALL browser info is there anything else for me to clear aside from history, cache, and cookies? I can't see anything else to clear from the browser but I thought I'd ask. I'm so use to the term temp net files.

2. The app Pandora. I'm not saving songs but rather just playing them with that app. What I'm wondering is if those songs and the app use the cache memory ("temp internet files")? I figure that app uses a lot of the phone's browser memory and I want to make sure I can clear it out after using it so my browser isn't bogged down with Pandora data.

3. The free downloadable ringtone apps. Do those ringtones go into my SD card or does that use the internal phone's memory?

Obviously my phone came with a lot of nice features and apps along with my pix and contact data that was transferred over. I know internal phone memory was at 256mb before I put anything into the phone app wise but I want to make sure I don't needlessly take up space. Chances are I'll never have that many apps to use 256mb, and I know I can uninstall them, but I want to try to keep the phone as quick as possible without bogging it down. Any temp file deletion tips are appreciated.

Thanks for any help. This being my 1st smartphone and the fact that I've been out of the tech loop so long means a lot of catching up.

Thanks folks :)

Welcome aboard! It's always fun to learn something new every day. Imagine if we never got pass sucking our thumbs as a baby, we wouldn't be able to text message!

Giving you a bump!

hi there and :welcome:

if you go to settings>applications>pandora....there is a button there you can click to clean the cache. same with all your other apps that store crap. at one point i had like 80 apps on my phone and still had 147MB free so i wouldn't worry about storage. your ringtones are stored on your sd card. glad you luv yur droid!! :D

Thanks. I saw the individual cache clearing tip on another thread somewhere. Amazing all the things this thing can do. My 1st computer back in the early 80's had less memory than just one browser app on here... LoL

I see how to do the cache clears individually per app.
Setting > Applications > Manage Applications > Pandora > clear cache

Thanks :motdroidvert:
