HELP ME DECIDE (Moto Droid vs. HTC Incred)

Okay, before I start I'll tell you a little about myself and my situation because I know a lot of you feel that each phone fits a persons needs.
I'm 16 years old and I've always stared at people who had Iphones in complete envy, my dad's one of those anti-materialistic kind of guys and has a philosophy that "Phones are used for calling, nothing else"

So the closest thing to an iphone or droid I could get my hands on is a Voyager :i-m_so_happy: (sad...I know)
but my 2 year contract is coming to an end, my grades are perfectly fine and I've always been well-behaved so my parents are finally letting me pick ANY phone I desire (just so long as it's verizon) and letting me have a full unlimited data plan.

So of course I'm going to get the best dang smartphone on the market in Verizon ;)
My 2 year upgrade is actually...tomorrow the 26th
for the past 2 weeks I've been gawking at review videos for the Motorola droid so I had my heart completely set on that.

But today I just recently found the HTC droid incredible and it looks pretty awesome.
Thing is, I really like the simple yet slick and advanced GUI on the Motorola droid, it just reminds me of a computer desk top. The Incredible is suppose to have a full GB of ram though and the speed is expected to be outstanding!
And it's all for the same price as the Motorola droid.

So I'm really really torn between just buying the Moto droid tomorrow, or waiting it out for the HTC incredible. Based on what you know about me and my past envy for the Iphone, witch do you think would fit me better ?
Is the web browsing speed really THAT much faster on the Incredible ?

Thanks in advance!

go for the HTC Incredible and dont look back.

The ui is much better and has social networking intergrated while the droids vanilla social apps are subpar.

OLED screen is not great outdoors and draws more power from the battery than the Droid's. This is important because the biggest drain on my battery is the display.

This isn't accurate.

OLED vs. LCD : Which one is better?

OLED is better, definitely. Aside from showing clearer, crisper images as shown in the comparison photo above, OLED screens are also known to...

1. be thinner and lighter than LCD screens
2. consume less energy because they don't require backlight (vs. LCD)
3. be more rugged and resistant to breakage than LCD's because they are bendable
4. have better color reproduction and higher contrast ratio; rendering richer colors and deeper blacks

OLED, AMOLED vs. LCD TFT

As far as dim, I compared my friends Nexus One, and my Droid. Brightness for both all the way up.

My conclusion...........?

Their both very dim outside. Mind you its cloudy today with little sun. When comparing, the Droid having a better screen in sunlight is overrated. The Nexus One screen is dimmer but its so mi-nute that it shouldn't even matter.

Bottom line I saw it for myself, and I can't be bias, just because I love my droid. They both suck in the sunlight.
i second that i cant see crap outside and i live in fl and its always sunny here and i can see nothing outside.. but love my droid.. go with the droid!

For me the reason i'm sticking with the droid is for their multimedia dock, and navigation holder for car usage..
Haven't seen a mention of anything similar for the Incredible.

There's nothing really you can do on an incredible that you can't do on a Droid- It's all solid android love. You can even speed up the droid's CPU if you really want to go silky smooth.

Plus the root tethering + mods are farther along on the droid.

But i'm sure i'd love the incredible's light weight.. the extra native cpu power is convenient, and the sense UI is pretty sexy!

Tough decision.. but a big jump from a voyager-

Enjoy!

I think you should wait for the 29th, then you can compare them both hands on.This way you can make the right choice for you.
While OLED SHOULD be better than LCDs, it isn't true so far with the N1 and Droid.

Google Nexus One versus Motorola Droid Display Shoot-Out

I can see my screen perfectly outside and have never had a problem.

You gave a link to the Nexus One. This is irreverent when it comes to the incredible. The incredible uses a much different and approved sensor. Give me some evidence that the droid screen uses less power then the incredible.

Yeah the OLED screen might produce nice colors and such but they are not yet capable of producing 24 bit color. Which means the Incredible will show about 54,000 colors, while 24 bit LCD displays like the Droid's and the Palm Pre's will show over 16 million colors, therefore the colors are more accurate and images should be a lot smoother in areas where there are gradients. Also, they do draw less power than LCD displays.

The sensor as in the touch registering chip is much improved allowing better multi-touch, but the OLED screen itself is the same. Therefore the complaints about the nexus one's image quality should be valid with the incredible's screen as well.

I guess I'm getting old...I cannot see myself investing in a mobile device due to it's "social networking" capabilities...

Yes, you are getting old. If it makes you feel any better, you're not alone and it beats the alternative.

From the tidbits that are available so far (and they are truly "tidbits,") it appears that the Incredible is a more finished and polished consumer device than the Droid. That's hardly surprising. HTC has had a longer time to work on the new phone and the Snapdragon chip gives the software designers more to work with in terms of performance. (Back in the dark ages when I was a kid, the saying was that there's no substitute for cubic inches and that holds true for chips as well as engines.)

Back on topic. If you happen to enjoy playing games on your phone, the physical keyboard is a must. I really enjoy all the emulators out there, but they are next to unplayable with touch screen controls (which would be your only option on the Incredible). Engadget just did a review on this neat little grip that makes playing games much more enjoyable. Here's a link.

Home (game-gripper)

If the physical keyboard doesn't mean much to you, I think the Incredible seems like an obvious choice with it's impressive hardware. I love my Droid, but it is almost six months old now. Six months is an eternity in smartphone time.

OlED have been capable of producing 16 million colors since 2007.

Um.....what I stated was in the context of OLED and less power drain on the battery. No one was debating image quality.

Wow lots to consider. I can swap my Droid out on the 30 day policy and as of yet I am undecided as to what to do.

I do love the Droids heavy feel and although I do not use the keyboard, having it there does not bother me.

Faster is always better so the Snapdragon does make the Incredible very tempting though I am not into social networking so that whole thing is mute to me.

I do have plenty of Droid accessories, car dock, multimedia dock, 2 extra batteries, etc. but to be honest I never use any of that. My Garmin is still easier to use then the navigation on the Droid.

Tough call. Guess I'll make my decision once I get to try out the Incredible later this week.

Good to hear. You can't go wrong ether way. :)
