So I followed the droid-life.com method to get SPRecovery on my stock 2.1 droid.

Everything went fine, I had SPRecovery and I was going to try to get root access using this ESE81update.zip created by pete and following this method...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZk6iAoW_TE&feature=related]YouTube - Installing a Custom ROM in SPRecovery with No Root

file: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Well, I downloaded the file and renamed it update.zip and put it on the root of my sd card.

First time, it just didn't work, after i did a factory reset and tried to install update.zip in sprecovery, it just said installation failed. So I did a reboot in sprecovery, went and redownloaded the file and renamed it again and put it on the sdcard again...same exact thing I just did.

So I booted into sprecovery again and tried to install it and this time it actually started to install the update.zip. I saw the WWW.PETERALFONSO.COM line and everything. Then, it said, Installation almost done...and then it said SOMETHING about b/img...failed. I didn't write it down so I don't know exactly what it said. Sorry.

I tried to reboot using sprecovery and it was stuck at the Motorola logo for 10 minutes. I did a battery pull and tried to boot up again and it still stuck at the motorola logo. I can still get into sprecovery, but not do a normal bootup.

Help! Please!

First I have to ask if you have a charged battery. I know the messages do not have anything to do with it, but the last thing we want is to get something going and you bootloop because of a dead battery. 2nd let me get some background. Are you coming from droidmod. Are you coming from a 2.01 device.
I may have a method that will work but I must know that info first.

I had a 20% charge.

I am coming from stock 2.1.

You need to charge your battery in the outlet. That is a large reason for your bootlooping. We recommend flashing roms at 60% atleast. After you have a full charge try again. And if you are coming from 2.1 how did you install that did you use rsdlite to get that. Because 2.1 root exploit is closed.

Yes I used rsdlite to get SPRecovery.

I am charging it right now.

I need all the help I can get.

so you used rsdlite to flash the 2.1 with sprecovery already

their is an rsdlite 2.1 with sprecovery. wants you flash that you are done. Installing the peste ese 81 update.zip is redundant because it is the same thing. The rsdlite just take care of it all at once for you.

Video: Flashing SPRecovery SBF To Stock 2.1

Less than a week after the DroidMod team ruffled some feathers with their announcement that a real 2.1 root exploit would likely never be found, they come through with a method that’s almost as easy. The process involves using RSD Lite and the flashing of an SBF file (which you might be shuttering at), but is only changing the recovery image of your phone and as far as I know, is much less risky than flashing the full 2.0.1 SBF which was previously mentioned. Let me try to explain this.
If you go through with the process I’ve outlined below and in video, your phone will NOT be rooted, but will have SPRecovery installed instead of the stock Droid recovery. So why is this good news? Because SPRecovery will allow you to flash a 2.1 custom ROM which will give you 2.1 root access. That make sense?
Recap: This process will NOT give you root access to 2.1, but will allow you to get there much easier than previous instructions. When we are finished, this process will give you the opportunity to flash a custom ROM which will in turn, give you root access. (Yay!) Now please read the warning.
*Warning* – The process we are about to layout is extremely risky. If you choose to do this, we are not liable should you brick your phone or cause any sort of permanent damage. If you do harm to your phone, please do not email us asking for help as you have already been warned and accept all risk involved. Cheers!
Initial steps…
1. Download the SPRecovery SBF: SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf
2. Place the file somewhere other than your desktop.
3. DO NOT RENAME OR ATTEMPT TO UNZIP OR ANYTHING.
Video instructions…

Step-by-step instructions…
1. Remember this post? Well we’re back to it only simplifying.
2. Download your correct Motorola USB drivers and install. (32-bit) (64-bit)
3. Download and install RSD Lite 4.6. Link to download at this post.
4. Connect your phone to USB and turn it off.
5. Open RSD Lite (run as administrator).
6. Slide open your keyboard, hold up on the d-pad, then the power button for 5 seconds and release.
Your phone should then boot to a black screen which is your bootloader.
7. Click the … next to the filename box and browse to where you saved the SPRecover_ESE81.sbf file.
8. Double click and open the file.
9. Click “start” and allow the SPRecovery SBF to flash. This should not take long.
10. Allow for your phone to reboot and for RSD Lite to show that you are 100% and completed.
11. Close RSD Lite and disconnect your phone. You are done.
What about root and custom ROMs?
Your phone is now still sitting at official stock 2.1, but has SPRecovery as your recovery image. This is great news as it will allow us to install a 2.1 custom ROM with root access. If you are familiar with flashing ROMs manually in SPRecovery, go for it!

if you followed that then you are done

I pull the battery and put it back in, but the second I put the usb charger into the phone, it goes to the Moto logo. Is this normal?

What do I do after I let it charge for a while? I mean, it's been charging this whole time, so I don't understand why it wouldn't at least have enough juice to do a normal boot.

yeah, I followed all those steps, but that only gave my SPRecovery, NOT root access.

THe first video in you link flashes rsdlite 2.1 with sprecovery . After you chrge you battery you should be able to boot up and check about phone and it will say pete 81.

THe second method is for those still with 2.01. The can install that method and get the official 2.1 with root through sprecovery.

i stand corrected.

Do you have windows 7
