Help the hacking community - snag the update.zip...instructions

So the update will be rolling out today. If you get it, please help everyone by getting the update.zip from your sd card before it installs. There are two ways of doing this and it in no way hurts your phone and you are at no risk of brick unlike what some of us have tried(Miami lol).

Method 1: When you get notification, download the update. When the phone turns off to restart and apply the update pull the battery. Pull out the sd card and mount it in your pc or even another microsd compatible phone you can mount. Then you should have an update.zip on the card.

Method 2: Download a logcat from the market. When you get notification of the update, open logcat. Let it start to download then just go into logcat and copy the download link from the log.

Then, post on here, or the irc room or PM someone and lets get this out so we can see if it helps at all with rooting. Thanks!

Might want to post this at Droidxforums.com/forum (the sister site)...or if you don't want to register I can link this post there.

is it better to update at this point or wait and see if the devs can find a exploit from this update? sorry if that sounds newbish. this is my 1st android phone!

I saw at least one of these "devs" tweet about not updating yet and waiting for them to check it over and/or crack it. Don't ask for a link I was just browsing through twitter (dun even have an account myself) so I don't remember.

thx for the reply. i think imma wait it out lol

I'm cautious about updating for this specific reason.

FAUguy @ HowardForums says that the update.zip file is no longer downloaded to SD card and is now saved to the phone, which isn't accesible to user....yet?

Motorola DROID X Software and Hardware tracking thread

I got the update notice and haven't updated, will try to see if I can mount the phone and look for the file when I get off from work in the morning.

I downloaded the update, but chose the install later option. Used Astro and PC to look through the SD Card, no update.zip found.

I then used Astro to browse the "/" directory, which is the root directory, I searched manually as well as using the search function, no update.zip found, unless I missed it, but search didn't turn anything up either.

Either they changed the file from update.zip to something else, or it's not in the SD Card or root directory, but most likely in the internal storage, which I have not found a way to get in to.

Not a hacker or a dev, just looking around trying to find what I can.

I even searched for file size, leaving the name blank and didn't find anything.

I cant find the update.zip on the phone. I am sshd into my phone and searching like crazy! I even sftp to it and still no luck. This is alot tighter than the original Droid. Anyone else having luck locating the update file? Starting to wonder if there was an update.zip even used?

Had no luck, you're doing this all after downloading but before updating the phone right?
