OK - On my first reply I was on my phone playing around with the DF app and didn't realize this was in the DX section ... I do not know for sure this process works with DX (I've done it successfully several times on D1), but I don't see why it wouldn't. Here's what you do:

Rename the .zip to bootanimation.zip and place on the root of your SD card.

Open up your terminal emulator and type in these commands

su (hit enter)

cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip (hit enter)
[ ^ notice the spaces------^]
reboot(hit enter)

let me know if that works for ya ... kinda curious if it'll work on the DX as well

good luck :)

It tried working but froze and froze that's not bad. Thanx it shows I can fallow directions... lol thanx again. This is how we learn, and why there are great developers and troubleshooters. We all miss...til we get it right. Thanx again

I rename the boot animation you want to something you can recognize until you get into system/media. Then rename.

The easiest way to install this is to use Root Explorer.

-Hook phone to computer.

-Copy it to the root of your SD card.

-Unplug from comp.

-Open Root Explorer.

-Copy the file and navigate to system/media.

-Change the permissions to R/W by clicking the button in the top right.

-Rename the existing bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.bak.

-Then paste new file in this directory.

-Change permission back to R/O.

-Reboot and enjoy the show.

I've had some work through system/media and others don't. The ones that don't work will make your screen black when you boot up. And I've kept the original boot animation in system/media the whole time, just renamed to bak.
