Home ++ (another home replacement)

Bah, after all this reading about it, I had to go out and install it real quick.

Must say, I'm quite impressed so far, though the extra screen may or may not be a good thing. Obviously, the extra real estate is beautiful, but I'll have to go and modify my wallpaper just a tad. Didn't really spend much time looking at it, but I imagine there's a workaround or two built into the replacement itself.

Other than that, the only thing I miss is being able to actually pull the app drawer up with a gesture as opposed to a click. And same with the notification area (which I know can be toggled on).

's the small things, really.

Also, Martin...

Loving this app so far. My only 2 issues with it are wishing for more (at least 1) screens and a little more visual customization. More or less just icons. But, seeing as it's in beta, I'm guessing (see; hoping) for those to come along in time. So far it's much faster and only FC'ed on me once compared to openhome which did it consistently.

I'd say that it's prolly the same as the typical wallpapers, only another half a screen width added.

Well if you noticed when you add a wall paper with normal resolution it gets cut off on the last screen. Once you add one of their wall papers it is perfect size.

It gets cut off at the last screen because unless you specifically set your wallpaper to tile, it's not gonna tile.

The wallpapers included with Home++ are specifically designed to tile with the four screens.

My ghetto solution to this was to make a wallpaper with all the good stuff right there in the center, and then it fades to black at the edges.

Ok, I see what you are saying. I still would like to see the source files of the Home++ walls. Any idea where they are located?

just set up Home ++ on my Droid last night. i love it, much better than the stock Home, and very intuitive to use.

however, i noticed a few force-closes when i tried to do a number of things, including changing the wallpaper, and flipping quick through the screens (obnixously, to test the speed, not regular use)

i'm sure it will only get better with updates

Unfortunately, I think that the bundled wallpapers are stored in the phone's internal memory with the app itself.

That being said, the official site has a section targeted towards artists, though either I'm very tired and missing something, or it's not entirely helpful at all...

For Artists (Home++ by Intuitit)

Ultimately, my problem is that regardless of what resolution I design the wallpapers, the phone gives me a bounding box to choose a smaller portion of it.

Edit: Ah, nevermind. Didn't know you could resize that box by holding onto the edges of it. Problem solved.

BTW for those wondering about DDMS to use screenshots you need to enable:

Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging

Then install the Motorola drivers and you can use DDMS for screenshots.

Yeah, my 4th screen will show a cut off of the wallpaper, so i just disabled wallpaper scrolling until he offers an option that doesn't loop i suppose.

Currently I have Locale running, as well as Beautiful Widgets, and Screebl Lite.

I'm thinking that maybe it's one of these apps. It has to be Locale or Screebl Lite... Any of you guys have that?

I have only Beautiful Widgets installed, and have been using Home++ for about two weeks now, and it's running very stable, no fc issues.

Just a little gun-shy with the home replacement apps. This one sounds promising though.

Does Home++ uninstall cleanly if I do not like it?

Does my icon/widget layout get restored it I uninstall?

Thanks.

(BTW Garrett, I feel like an old perv, but that is one of the most "compelling" wallpapers I have seen.)

Thanks guys. Got a lil frustrated last night. Appreciate the link... and highlighting a minor oversight on my part... (setting the debugging in development... oops)

No FC's for me... With the backgrounds I would like to see it fit a lil better among the 4 screens. Instead of having the two 'edges' of the picture meet in one home screen it'd be better if it fit across the 4 screen with the 'edge' of the image on the outer two screens... instead of causing a seam on the 4th screen.

REARless:

a) Yes. Not only will Home++ uninstall without a hitch if you don't like it, it actually provides an app entry in the app drawer to let you switch back to the regular home screen whenever you want, on the fly.

b) And yes, your regular home screen is completely independent from the Home++ screen, much to my surprise (pleasant though it may have been).

All in all, this is one hell of an excellent home replacement.
