MIUI has good battery life.

Actually the battery life should be about the same or a little less on miui. Miui is built off cm.

If you're delving in to the world of ROMs and custom UIs, I'd say also consider playing around with the GB leak for the D2. I know CM7 is based around GB (not sure of the others... :S) but I'm running the stock rooted GB leak (based on the Monster file) and my phone is a helluva lot faster than it ever was on Froyo. I've got the extended battery and even with fairly heavy usage I can see ~25 hours until it's completely dead. If I'm in airplane mode it lasts bloody ages.
