How do I go from 2.01 to LGB 0.5??

So you guys are saying flash
.01 and .05(kernal) in the same bootstrap session? Thinking of flashing GB tonight. I was going to wait but I'm jealous of what I'm seeing!

DX. CFU. LIB 2.0.1

That's what I did, flash both in the same bootstrap session. But I did make a Nandroid backup of v0.1, and wiped data, cache, and Dalvik before flashing v0.5.

Liberty Gingerbread v0.5

I am having a slight issue, I am on liberty 2.0.1 and I have downloaded the .588 3 part gb install, go into bootstrap recovery, wipe, mount system but when I go to flash part 1 it gives me an error status 7, bad file, I downloaded it twice once over wifi and another over network both are same size and same error for both. Anybody else have this problem and what did you do to correct? Any help its appreciated

1. Root.
2. Download Liberty Toolbox Donate (easiest way to get to v0.5).
3. Download Droid 2 Bootstrap (personally, I already had the Droid X Bootstrap and I'm not sure if you could use Droid 2 Bootstrap with Froyo but maybe start here). The reason BoJatey mentioned Droid 2 Bootstrap is because once you get to Gingerbread, the Droid X Bootstrap no longer works.

Is step 3 necessary with Liberty Toolbox, isn't there an "install bootstrap" option within the toolbox?

I think I have figured out what I would like to do in terms of upgrading to GB and I just wanted to confirm with someone here that I am taking the right steps. To reiterate, I'm currently running Lib 2.0.1 on Froyo (Droid X). When the official GB ota is released by Verizon, I would like to first install GB, root it, then use it for while without any ROM to see what it's like. After playing with it for a bit, I would like to then try LibGB (assuming a new version is released when the update is official) to compare the two. Based on the above, do I still need to follow the previous instructions before the OTA to "prepare" my phone or is there something completely different I have to/can do to get ready to run stock GB then LibGB? As always, thanks SO much for the tremendous help and assistance.

To prepare for the OTA the best way to be ready for it would be to SBF back to stock froyo. That said, there has been information circulating that there currently is no known root method for the GB OTA. Just keep that in mind, if you accept the OTA you may be without root for a while at first (or forever?, worst case scenario). Going from the OTA to a future GB release remains to be seen since it's not out yet. If the OTA is rooted then you would most likely be able to install a rom the way you previously did on froyo.

Thanks. I was asking this under the assumption that we had to accept the OTA (not sure why...), but if we don't have to install it right away then I assume I would be ok to stay where I am and wait until GB is rooted then proceed? Thanks again. The advice in this thread has been incredibly helpful.
