How do I root gingerbread?

I'm getting 2/4 bars, but of course I'm in the basement. I'm going to go upstairs and hopefully it will goo faster.
 
ahhh, Mybackup root can't find my backups even though I can see them when I plug my phone into my computer. they are in /mnt/sdcard-ext/reware but I have no clue on how too set mybackup root to look there.

Inside The App Hit The Menu Button Then Click Options. In There The First Option.
 
Yeah, i'm doing that, but no matter what I set it to it can't find the back ups.
I even copied the rerware folder into /mnt/sdcard/ to make it easier and I set that as the backup location and it still can't find it...
 
Somehow I got it to restore my data, but not my media...
I don't care about the media. I just want my data, so I'm good.

I hope if this every happens again, it will go much smoother that I now know how to do it.
