I did figure this out, what I was doing wrong (or not doing) I happened to try it once when the case (soft silicone like) wasn't on it, and it worked. Now I usually can do it with the case on it, if I press really hard, but sometimes it just brings up the task manager (I think it is) instead. I wanted to have this on here in case others had the same problem, when I was looking for answers I kept finding people who were asking how?
My phone was supposed to be the newest version (ice cream sandwich) and this is what it said going by the version number on the phone (from ATT) but that version takes screenshots with the power and vol down button, which I had been trying. Apparently mine is still the gingerbread (which is ok with me and I think the names are silly... LOL) and screenshots are the power button and HOME. But, they need to be pressed very firmly, and the case seems to get in the way of this. But now I know, I can press firmly or slip the case off.
