Says each processor is running at 1ghz....isn't that 2?

No its still 1ghz. Single threaded apps (practically all current apps) will not run any faster with that one core just sitting there doing nothing.

So what's the benefit of it?

The benefits are many. The most useful are The fact that the phone can split the workload of running multiple or resource-hog apps over the two processors, which allows for some improved performance but mostly a much more battery efficient phone. However it is true that many applications won't be resource heavy enough to get into the second processor, but I imagine that running 1080p video would be.

There are other benefits and probably a more precise way to explain them, but that's about what I know. Check out the LG Optimus 2x thread, there's some good info there.
