How long did you wait to root?

It arrived on Wednesday and by Saturday I had it rooted. Did lots of reading ahead of time so I knew what I was doing.

I waited about a month. I wasnt going to root but I got tired of bloatware apps hogging my memory. Root and titanium backup fixed those problems

I had a Droid 1 before I got my X, and was rooted and rom'd. So when I got my X, I rooted it even before I activated it lol

That I am not sure about, all that fine print in the legal stuff is way too confusing. As far as I know, rooting voids the warranty on the phone for sure.

Do you mean motorola's manufacturers warranty or the third party asurion warranty for which verizon charges 8 bucks a month or both?

It voids the software warranty of the phone itself. Assurion isn't a warranty - it's insurance in case anything happens to your phone that Verizon won't cover (which is pretty much anything other than software/hardware problems within the first year)

Oh, and I'll wait to root after I get 2.2 ... Not before. I love flashing. It's like getting a new phone after each flash!
