You should know by now that these threads are never ever ever going to die. As more new users purchase android devices they'll be constantly renewed. And it doesn't help that sources like Laptop Magazine in their review of great apps for Android phones put ATK at the top of the list and complain that a task killer isn't included in the stock phone.
Nevertheless, it's true that rogue apps and/or massive amounts of cached data can create problems for the android o/s. So it's not unreasonable to ask how much free memory one has from time to time.
But in doing so one has to keep in mind that if you have 30mg free, starting another application will, in all likelihood, only add say 4mg to the active apps. So while it may "feel" like there should be more free memory, that's simply a misreading of what's important.
