how much does droid allow control of facebook contact syncing?

i've got a strange problem-
My bro changed his name in fb because he's teacher and doesn't want kids to find him.
i look at my phone and see his new alias name.
when i go to the contact to EDIT it shows his real name under EDIT CONTACT but under the contact list (& my favorite list) is shows his fb name.

if you decide to fb sync are you limited to displaying the persons name or can you alter the display name?

No you cannot alter the display name. I have a strange problem too whereas I have 2 different friends with the same first/last name. They both get merged into the same google contact. I tried altering the name of one of them before syncing and it still doesn't work & it would override the name I had just changed. Ended up defriending one of them in FB but I will probably add him back
