I made a post a few weeks back suggesting not to unroot the Incredible by using the downgrade video but with some recent posts I have noticed some did not read it.

With the new Slcd's out if you downgrade to 2.1 to unroot you will be left with a black screen and a device rendered less then usable.

This post will show the correct way to unroot the device. It is already posted on AF, XDA, my blog and on Incredileforums.com. No excuses of "I didn't see it"

How to Unroot Correctly

PB31IMG Method

First step is to get s-on. Download this file and flash through clockwork recovery.(Note s-on does not work on radio 2.15.00.09.01. If you have radio 2.15.00.09.01 please flash this http://dougpiston.com/files/Radios/PB31IMG-radio-2.15.00.07.28.ziphttp://static.droidnetwork.net/dpiston/Radios/PB31IMG-radio-2.15.00.07.28.zip through Hboot first.)

Now that you have s-on you can now flash the 2.2 RUU with Hboot. To do this you must have your sd formatted to FAT32. Place the file below on the root of your sd card after you renamed it to PB31IMG. (Root means not in any folders) Then boot into hboot. To boot into Hboot power off the device and reboot it while pressing the vol- and the power at the same time. The phone will then look for the file and ask if you would like to accept it. Select yes and then leave the phone alone until it asks you if you would like to reboot. Select yes and enjoy you stock phone.

RUU Method

If you are having troubles getting it to flash through hboot you can also do the RUU. You'll need the newest version of HTC sync though. It can be found here: HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC (Verizon) - Downloads

Once that is installed you can download and run this RUU:

Hey Doug, whats up dude! So I wanted to unroot to get the new update coming out soon. I currently have S-off but I will want to root again in the future. Reading your post it looks like I have to first flash back to S-on. Is this going to present a problem for me later when I want to root again? or can I skip the s-on part and just flash the PB31IMG.zip file and leave s-off. Hopefully this makes sense lol.

For anyone else who wishes to know, if you want to root again later you can leave your device s-off. This method is for completely back to stock.

To leave it s-off just flash the PB31IMG.

The s-on? You would flash it just like a rom.

I rooted just for the wireless teather. I never put any roms on. Is there good instruction some where?

That is for getting s-on. Make sure you chose that zip file. Then run the PB31IMG to complete the process if you want to unroot.

just so everyone knows thats thinkin about downgrading with this after the 3.26.605.1 ota. doesnt work. error pops up and says "main version older would you like to reboot device?" kind of a bummer really.

It will downgrade if you have s-off. But yes it will not downgrade with s-on. This has been discussed many many times.

oh lol then i guess im missin out. i just got the dinc tuesday and they upgraded it there at the store. pissed me off when i found out i cant root the ota yet.

Thanks Doug!

Worked like a champ. It was saying that I had an incorrect image in HBOOT until I flashed the SD as FAT32. I know that you mentioned that in the OP but since I could see the card in Clockwork, I thought I was ok.

After the FAT32 format, HBOOT took and I am back to stock again.

Thanks again man.

Is there a way to un-root and then set the device back to s-on?
